Good entry-level experience
A typical day at work would involve juggling a large volume and variety of tasks. I was the primary contact for general inquiries and issues - especially pay issues - often leading to an investigation to solve the problem at hand. I would run various reports for HR and operations both on a scheduled basis or on demand, depending on the report. This was the bulk of my day-to-day, however I always had one or more projects to work on in addition to this.
Depending on the volume of work being handled by the department, I would also be called upon to support recruitment and labour relations.
This position allowed me to hone my customer service skills in a higher-pressure environment than I had experienced in the past. It also gave me entry-level exposure to nearly all core facets of HR. It also afforded me experience supporting the change management process, as the company was in a transitory period in which numerous policies and processes were being overhauled, one of which was the introduction of a centralized Shared Services Organization.
My co-workers were friendly and supportive of my learning curve, and were trusting of my support to call on me when needed. One problem however, because of the high demands on the department compared to the actual size of the department, they were not always as available as I would have liked.
There were two difficult aspects of the job, with the first being that there was very little training to prepare me for what I would face on
Points positifsSupportive boss and peers
Points négatifsMinimal training, long hours due to high workload
The job I do is rewarding enough but not many seem to care about the quality of their work so I often have to clean up or repair parts as I get them before I can do my job. There are many employees here who treat the place like high school.
There is no accountability for personal work/behavior. Most days it's like a daycare where all the adults have left the building.
Management is powerless to affect change due to a self interested union that works hard on behalf of unproductive employees while denying attention to good ones. Thanks to the practice of "seniority" being an exemplary employee means absolutely nothing here. Date of hire overrides all other factors. It is my belief that this has caused many good workers to give up and degrade to the lowest status quo. "Why try when those that do not get the same pay, benefits and the ardent backing of the union?"
Air quality in the plant is horrendous! This has been an ongoing issue since before I started here. Many days you can see a river of blue fog moving overhead. Debris settles on equipment minutes after it's been cleaned.
Maintenance of equipment and machines is haphazard at best.
I have waited weeks for repairs/adjustments to equipment making the job much harder than it should be.
The pay is good but benefits are surprisingly poor. (If memory serves I think the per visit benefit for licensed massage therapy is $7.00.. for only 6 visits/year. Pretty good for 1976 but..)
Job security... as long as we have contracts
Joseph-Armand Bombardier is probably rolling in his grave
I HAVE ALWAYS wanted a Job at bombarder ever since I was a kid. Now that I see the truth behind this company I feel sorry for all the hard work done in the past to bring this company to where it is now.
Right from the start a recruiting agent lied to me about the wage I was going to get and after packing all my belonging and saying bye to all my friends and family (relocating from across the province) I finally received my offer (just days before my start date) which was significantly less than I was promised. The months to follow were some of the most stressful times of my life. With the constant fear of being let go before probation ends, supervisors that did not know what they were doing and only 1 lead hand responsible to train over 30 people.
Most of the union staff here are really only here for their paychecks. The most senior of workers would watch movies on their phones or computers while all of the less senior members would do all the work.
The only time the shop floor was clean and organized was just before any audit would happen and then shortly after would look like a highschool cafeteria just after lunch.
The management put so much stress on timelines that the overall quality of the build would suffer to a point that it would cost them even more time in the long run.
I was laid off in march with the company still owing me thousands and 6 months later I have received 0$ and struggle to get any replies from H.R or the Union.

A very stressful place to work.
There is always another task to do within the same time frame, and most often, there will be no appreciation about that but only a short "merci or thanks", that will most likely be forgotten at the yearly evaluation, especially after changing multiple managers and the last one have no idea, what you have done before, when they will emphasize on things that are not well done, for the only purpose, to not give you a well-deserved better pay increase.
As in many other places, there are too many people not knowing well what exactly are doing, but if they are OK with the manager, they will usually manage to succeed that is very annoying when you see it on daily bases.
There are literally hundreds of procedures you need to comply for every single task, that hardly anyone knows, but if you screw something, the manager will point immediately on you.
Because of the lack of transparency on all management levels, the hardest part to understand is, if you are meeting your manager or your manager-manager expectations. Even if you do a great job, if they do not appreciate this during the end of year evaluations, you can always feel how easy it might be to let you go in any single moment.
Very real prove of lack of transparency and even incapability of management to handle well the company is the company share price fluctuation-there is no decent company on the market, that would demonstrate a similar behaviour and would not be punished.

Projets stimulants
One of the worst places I’ve ever worked in my career. Unfortunately, this review does not offer zero stars.
- Top management does not care at all for the employees,
- Mid management (i.e. direct managers) are very unprepared and there is no leadership whatsoever,
- Work is carried based upon the will of senior people that are often biased and not quality oriented,
- There is no quality inspection, software development is neglected,
- Salary is below average pay,
- Company is always in trouble to get new businesses,
- Clients are never happy with the development and the company never realizes its own faults and instead of looking for internal solutions, they prefer pointing the fingers at the customers saying the reason they didn't accomplish a good work was because the client was too demanding and difficult to deal with (this happens with every client and it shows that the problem is not external but internal - they are always on denial),
- They never recognize their shortcomings, they have lots of problems with work harassment,
- They have a huge disrespect for people who have been working there for years,
- It's very difficult to advance within the company if you are not the boss buddy, overall, stay away from that place.
The only thing you will gain is huge headaches to be forced to work in a poisoning environment and watch the wrong people being promoted and honest, hard working people being placed aside.
Points positifsIt was close to home
Points négatifsHuge lack of management, no leadership and no prospects of future professional growth.
My typical day starts at 6 am For the upcoming shift that starts at 7 AM, all Assembly manuals that have been targeted for the days build need to be reviewed, all parts required for the completion for those jobs need to be cashed and and all accounts of shortages followed up to minimize impact to stay on schedule .
Start up crew with the daily expectations which is also followed up after lunch with team lead hands,
Sit down follow ups with engineering, Methods, work material planning to make sure we have received all shortages from previous build stations, with new ECD and manpower to be deployed to catch up on the traveled work.
Review current days build and have planning and parts ready for the second and third shifts execution.
Attend senior management meetings to report daily status, shortages, engineering changes .with top priority paid to health and safety of the bays and each build stations.
the learning part is to never expect the expected always be ready for the unexpected.
communication is the key always learn to listen to your employees after all they are the ones preforming the daily task,
The hardest part of the job is keeping it together when things do not go as planned, be calm and make good sound judgment calls
Finally the most enjoyable part of the job is when we have reached our goals and able to produce on time and on cost.
Points positifsget to use my skills, knowledge and resourcefulness
Points négatifswork weekends and long hours with no financial benefits
Typical day at work consisted of OVER TASK SATURATION from start to finish. From maintaining a fleet of vehicles, safety equipment, Ground Service Equipment, answering phones, plumbing, electrical, overhead lighting, aircraft jacks, clerical work, aircraft hanger lighting, compliance with OSHA and FAA inspections on weekly basis... This place was a nightmare, and will most likely continue to be under the current management. It is nothing short of a miracle I've been able to endure this long. The supposed "support" I was to have consisted of a racist accountant, an overzealous disrespectful quality assurance team, and myself. I was informed previously that this position required A TEAM OF INDIVIDUALS to maintain. I was informed ON THE DAY BEFORE I STARTED that this position had an extremely high turnover rate. I believe I was contracted to work here so that the actual company I worked for could make a quick buck while maintaining my same salary AFTER TWO YEARS of keeping this sinking ship afloat. Its not a coincidence that after meeting the new General Manager and voicing the issues with the facility coupled with multiple complaints of being GROSSLY UNDERSTAFFED as well as a request for a raise, that i was terminated a few days later. (The Ft. Lauderdale location is slated to relocate to Opa Locka within the next 18 months, which may be another indicator for mass firings). This is the warrior ethos of this company. HUGE BUDGETARY ISSUES. In acquiring quotes for services and m

Management has no idea or knowledge about their work.
Im surprise this place hasn't gone bankruptcy. Management? can it be called management? These people has no idea of what they're doing. The amount of employees turnover is ridiculous. Do they know paying training to 20 people one week to get rid of them the next has an impact to the company? Now, this happens weekly not because workers are not able to do their work, just because they don't like you. Doesn't make any sense the amount of turnover, this matter strikes back as lack of knowledge on the floor. A lot of new guys as crew chief's and without any experience. So much wasted time and time = Money. Also there's a lot of waste of materials and supplies because reworks and lack of supervision. Human Resources? what a joke. What are they doing? They're not for you. She'll tell you to do exactly what you don't need to do because you'll then get screw.
So sad, this people have a great company, lots of good and knowledgeable people who are willing to push forward and far beyond but LACK of management is just holding back the path and growth of this place. I love to work here, and most of the people are just great, good people.
My advice to management is to learn their work, to do what they need to do and that is not firing people because they're bored... is to be a Leader! get to the floor and find the need of workers, instead of punishing them. Learn deficiencies of the place and mitigate them! If the technician is not doing a good time on cards. ASK!!!!!! Whats going on h
Points positifsGood overtime.
Points négatifs12hrs shift. As of right now crew chiefs are new so they're not really related with tasks, Too much time wasted. Bad Equipment, bad resources, Unknowledgeable Management.
Promotes work life balance, values employees, promotes career growth
A typical day at work is a productive one. I open my emails to check for any queries that need to be addressed as well as answers to my previous queries. Reading emails is the first I do as there might be specific instructions sent thru email that will be related to my other tasks for the day. Then I review journal entries that need to be posted and I am a heavy user of SAP especially when posting entries, doing financial reports, analysis and reconciliations.
In Bombardier, we work in teams, so over the years, I have learned to be a team player and how to deal with diversity in each one. I have also learned to be confident in terms of dealing with local and foreign counterparts because Bombardier provides various avenues to hone it.
Management has played a key role in promoting work life balance as well as career growth for all its employees. Thru PMPs and occasional reinforcements, management is able to know and address concerns of its employees and as a result, is able to work out on how best to strengthen and take care of the careers of its employees.
Our co-workers have diverse personalities and even come from diverse cultures, but we have managed to work as a team and we always have a drive for results. Our motto: Working Hard, Having Fun, Get It Structured, Get It Done.
The hardest part of the job is being swamped with issues that may or may not be within our control. But the good thing that these issues bring is that they help us to learn. After which w
I got hired as contract to hire. The first day, I found out that they do not allow contractors to get Love Field Airport badges, as does every other aviation maintenance facility and employer at Love Field Airport. That means that you "technically" are required to have an employee with an airport badge with escort privileges badge you in the building and watch you as you work, escort you to and from the break room and restroom, which obviously doesn't happen. I also found out that they had brought over 10 employees from other Bombardier locations in order to catch up on the work they were behind on. So in other words, there was very little work left for contractors, after the employees from the other locations got their work assignments. Understandably, they caught up on their work, and I was laid off after 2 weeks. If a facility relies on permanent employees, as well as employees from other locations, that is great; but in that case, there is no reason for management to hire contractors, who will not have much work to do, and will soon be laid off. That is not fair to contractors who may be traveling from great distances in expectation of and financially requiring, as well as promised, plenty of work. It appears to be a great facility to work in, and has good job stability, but not as an aviation contractor. There are a lot of meetings informing employees of things going on in the company that they need to know, and thanking them for their hard work. However, they
Points positifsGreat, clean facility and very nice corporate aircraft to work on.
Points négatifsInsufficient work load left for contractors, as well as no airport badges given.
It is hard to believe this company is responsible for the maintenance of the equipment used to SAFELY transport passengers.
Parts never available; make it work or bypass it. Then they want to evaluate your efficiency and tell you how things need to get done quicker while working with nothing.
Tooling is the biggest joke. If you're good with channel locks and a crescent wrench, working here will probably be just fine. Odds are you don't know much and will fit right in with the majority. Some of the techs are super people; many however, just shoot from the hip and never know what or why they are doing what they are. Very dangerous if you're working with high voltage / torque / horsepower equipment. Repeated violations for moving equipment with people in-between or under it.
The position sounds great when you go for the interview; however, something tells me some of the HR / Manager's used to be defense attorney's because it's a whole different story once you're actually in. I've been around and this place is definitely one for the record book of "how do they do it?"
Potential is there to be something great; however, those responsible for making the decisions need to come back out on the floor and learn the work they're responsible for overseeing. There is no union in the world that can help someplace do that; like our government, Bombardier L.A. is in serious need of restructuring.
No paycheck is worth the grief unless it's accompanied by a bottle of 151.
Points positifs5 floating holidays from day 1 and a check
Points négatifsManagement, tooling, parts, safety, technical data and support, poor morale, carelessness, and ignorance.

Bombardier needs to hire capable management. Most of Managers are clueless and require product and process training.
The work environment is toxic and there is no team work culture promoted by company or by incapable management.
Imported junkies from Belfast are clueless about Canadian culture, Canadian work environment, Bombardier products and Processes.
They need to be shipped back to Shorts ASAP in order to improve Bombardier image as a company.

Bombardier is poorly managed company. With end of corporate welfare by Federal government it's very difficult for Bombardier to survive.
Due to poor planning and incapable management the production costs are too high.
In my estimate the labour costs to assemble a Global 7500 aircraft is same as A380.
Bombardier employees cannot do it right first time. Parts / assemblies are installed , removed, reinstalled on air crafts because workers lack the required skills.
