Productive with fun activities in and during breaks and other times outside working hours with colleagues.
The morning shift is the most enjoyable as it starts early hours of the day at 630am.I developed a good habit of getting early morning at 5am,get myself ready for driving to my site which is not far away. I had the chance of doing some morning walk there after setting everything and refresh with morning air. The site starts in full swing after a while keeping us busy, supervising the staff. Since the day starts very early it finishes quick keeping rest of the day for me which could be productive as well.
We learned a lot about the principle of the CRC, the unique workplace culture from the people of different cultural ,ethnic ,religious and traditional backgrounds from different parts of world.
There was a simple harmony amongst the managers, a very cooperative attitudes to help one another that impressed me. In fact, personally ,I didn't face any problem except we used to feel bore while it was not that busy at the site.
To mention about the most enjoyable part is when I heard about my deployment and got my ticket in short notice, awaiting for an unknown place to meet some unknown people to accomplish a task in a project.
To my surprise, the place was amazing with welcoming shiny day ,and a very good management in a team of varied culture, language and color but with a big smile at their faces.
Points positifsCompany used to give per diem which was good.
Points négatifsSometime bad weather condition.

Rewarding and life changing experiences
The Canadian Red Cross has allowed me to have success in both my job and personal life. The support that the organization continues to give contributes greatly to my success. I wake up every day looking forward to what experiences or challenges I may face. A huge take away from this job has been the ability of managing and working with people who are local or deployed, from outside the immediate area. I have enjoyed working with the most diverse group of individuals, learning of their amazing skills and backgrounds and leveraging them to help humanity. For this is truly one way we can all succeed and the Canadian Red Cross facilitates such an arena. With rewards comes challenges and working with humanity can sometimes be a bit wearing but the support I have received thru any challenges has turned my experiences into a positive.
The Canadian Red Cross operates under 7 core principles. This is an organization that sets you up for success using these principles. If you are looking to spread your heart out to humanity, have your skills leveraged, work in a positive atmoshpere, work with all walks of life and have your knowledge enriched learning of others experiences, wake up each day with a new adventure and each day feeling pride of knowing you have helped and touched at least one life, then this may be the place for you to do just that.

The workplace is a high breed one, with sophisticated computers and office furniture. Very comfortable office environment.
Typically, the initial phases of any emergency response are frenetic. This is due to the urgency with which evacuees must be attended to and cared for. Typically, this takes several days to subside. During this period, one's ability to perform under intense pressure can be evaluated.
I have always acquired new knowledge on-site. I have considerably improved my use of EMIS version 2. I have also received online training, which has enabled me to perform my responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
The workplace is sensitive to cultural factors. This indicates that it promotes cultural tolerance. As a result, the Red Cross employs individuals from a variety of cultures and backgrounds who are content with their jobs.
The most difficult aspect of the position is being required to travel on short notice.
The most enjoyable aspect is travelling to various regions and provinces, meeting new people, and making new acquaintances. One of the most enjoyable aspects of the job is the happiness and satisfaction derived from assisting people during difficult circumstances.
Points positifsWe enjoy fun time with colleagues after work.
Points négatifsSometimes we work long hours, and some times we experience down time.

Excellent colleagues, must be comfortable with sudden change/revision, Sr. Managers not always accountable for actions.
Excellent colleagues and the volunteers are inspiring. The work can be rewarding but depending on the type of work, it can take an emotional toll. If you put the work before yourself and your family- it will be taken advantage of. Be prepared to work in a very hectic and stressful ever-changing environment. If you thrive in this environment, you will enjoy it. The pay is OK for NFP but not on par with the level of pay for similar work in the corporate/public sector. The benefit package is decent and CRC matches RRSP contributions which helps with lower pay scales. Senior Managers often make decisions that can negatively affect the people doing the work. There is a high turnover in management and not much willingness to take workers' experience/expertise and advice into account. Lack of investment in appropriate technology has created a band-aid on band-aid effect that has led to several problems that end up on workers' laps. This is slowly being addressed - make sure you know your way around Excel.
Points positifsThe volunteers, colleagues, benefits/retirement pkg and sense of community working toward a common goal/mission.
Points négatifsLack of technology, senior management could really benefit from 360 reviews.

Great Anotomey with the job and always meeting new people
Multi-faceted, fast paced, diverse and very rewarding.
I learned much about needs not only in my province but in a World wide capacity. Giving BACK is so important and encourages others to do the same...very rewarding
My co-workers were mostly volunteers, but I did appreciate my supervisor and manager;as they helped with guidance and mentoring at times, but were not pro-active in my day-to-day job, with the exception of making critism.
The most difficult part of the job was actually finding the 'balance' between work and personal time. Although we were paid a decent salary and had really excellent benefit package, the additional time put into the job on extra activities such as meetings, fund raisers and in times of crisis... make it difficult to find balance at t imes. Also I found the political climate of the Organization fraught with negativity. Personalities should NOT come into play, particularly with this type of non-for-profit organization.
The most enjoyable part of my job with the Red Cross was helping others and relating to families in crisis, plus working with wonderful volunteers!
Points positifsoffice was located very close to my home
Points négatifslong hours, not enough suppport systems in place, too much unwarranted critism

Client Service Coordination
As a Cliant Service Coordinator with Canadian Red Cross I was required to create work schedules for Community Support Workers in order to provide optimum care for the clientele within their geographical area. It was my responsability to ensure that each client received personal care by having a CSW assigned to them either on a regular or temporary basis. It was also my duty to receive service offers from CCAC and input new client information into our data base so they can receive personal care within a timely manner. My duties where as follows:
- Rebooking
- Client Cancelations
- Sick Calls from PSW's
- Receive Service Offers
- Scheduling
- Update Client Information
Working with Red Cross I learned organizational and communicative skills. I learned what resources are available within our community and how to obtain information that could help the agency and the clients. The Red Cross provided a friendly and positive atmospsere which made it easy to learn the job and feel comfortable with performing duties that is required in Client Service Coordination.
Points positifsthe client is always put first, staff is very helpful, positive work environment
Points négatifsas a casual there was not enough hours available to work

Red Cross was an excellent work environment. The work role emphasised the quality of work required that had to be the BEST. It also had Fund raising
Red Cross -Transportation Department
Work experience was good and educative. It gave me the opportunity of exercising my people skills behind the desk as well as in person. I was able to build relationships with the volunteers and staff and complement the work/duties as per the requirement.
My experience of starting as a Passenger Assistant helped me to understand the interpersonal skills required to deal with the clientele and staff. This further helped me when I was offered the post of a Service Coordinator/Administrator.
Red Cross service to the community is very honorable and working in an environment with a mindset focused on humanitarian needs is very Nobel and Humbling. Serving the community has always been my goal, and being part of making society better was very fulfilling.
Working at Red Cross has been very purposeful and has taught me many life skills. These teachings always make one a better person.
Points positifsUniform, Benefits, meeting various volunteers and staff from various places.
Points négatifsOld Transportation, Mechanical delays, Office Heating;

I learned a lot of skills and knowledge with Canadian red Cross that made me who I am
My first day of work with Canadian Red Cross"shadowing day'
My supervisor gave me my colleague home phone number assigned to shadow me. I had never met nor seen her before and I had to call her at home personaly to ask about the time and where we should meet. we met to the first client's home, and at the beginning it was the only address I knew among six we had to visit that day.
My work wasn't just to show my knowledge but I got tested on driving skills because I had to race after my colleague worried to loose her track and got lost for good without destination addresses. I was glad at the end I made it happen. That has increased my confidence and self-esteem than ever before.
I learned everything that made me being a great personal support worker.
The Red Cross management has high standards in solving conflict arising between clients and staff.
I can not tell much about my co-workers as we just meet once in a while for some meetings and trainings.
The hardest part of the job is changes of the schedule at times.
The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing my clients recovering.
Points positifsfree equipement.
Points négatifsworking late evenings.

It's a pleasure working with my clients and co-workers.
Having regular clients are great as you get to know them, their likes and dislikes. My mornings are pretty full and my afternoons are a little bit more light which is great for the end of day. What I've learned is that each client has their own likes and dislikes and you have to know how to interact with them especially if they had a rough night. Most importantly let your client(s) do as much as they can in order for them to feel good about themselves and to keep them motivated by praising and encouraging their efforts. My co-workers are good, we are able to give each other tips on how to deal with clients who from time to time may have issues. The hardest part of my job is not being able to be there for them come their end of life. The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to go into my clients to assist them and knowing that by my helping them and allowing them to do as much for themselves, they are happy and very appreciative and thankful for all the kindness I show them. When my client says out of the blue "thank you, you've made my day," really makes me happy to know that I've made a difference, one person at a time.

great clients to take care of/ nice office staff
overall company is still growing.
office staff are helpful.
wish some one will talk to you when you call. sometimes you do not have the time to call later.
we have to use our own cell phones, sometimes your battery gets low and with home care, clients do not mind you using a plug, but you need to have the adapter with you, as long you didn't leave it at home
i would like to see company replace clients when they are removed from my schedule.
pay goes down, stays that way for some time.
rate of pay is low.
I work on my own, home services 5 days a week, 1-2 hour visits.
clients are living at home with other person or retirement living.
you do get attached. I like to look at my work as seeing my own grandparents in their place and treat them as my own.
It gives me great pleasure to see and help people in my business, which also allows me to be a true, honest person, my personality is always good to everyone-its a natural feeling:
being a R. P.S.W. allows me to be me for over 27 years.
also continue with a great reputation which is highly important to me
Points positifsgreat people to care for
Points négatifssome days are long
