SI Leader | Brampton, ON | 2 mai 2016
Unique Opportunity I Was Given a Chance to Pilot
The SI Leadership was a pilot project that I had been chosen for as a leader within because I had shown considerable levels of skill in the program and earning high marks while maintaining a high level of sociability. I was tasked with integrating myself into a class as a peer that had already completed a course in the past that had a higher rate of failure across the student body. I learnt how to be a leader and manage multiple minds at the same time who were working towards a common goal. I would become a friend that they could come to for help, and would effectively teach a class or act as a tutor to the students that would be falling behind for whatever reason -- a secondary teacher essentially. The hardest part was showing the students that they could succeed at it if they tried, despite the staggering amount of dropouts that the course had in the past. The most enjoyable part was being able to get through to the students and helping them along, real friendships were forged as a result. It was mainly an independent environment, the meetings between those involved with the pilot project would be periodic and we'd go over the progress and whether or not the SI Leadership was worth investing further into.
Points positifsShort hours, hands on, we are in complete control of what takes place
Points négatifsRoughly laid out (due to it being a new idea)

Promoted Student Leadership and Engagement Program and CCR. Worked with Sheridan Students and Peers and had a lot of fun.
I planned marketplace every month with my team mates. My job is to email the Peers from other departments and Students regarding the Marketplaces. Marketplaces are really fun and a way to promote services and interact with different people. I developed Leadership qualities, effective communications and creativity while working at all the Marketplaces. I and my colleagues manage all the things well so that we could interact will most of the students on-campus. My co-workers are supportive and helpful. They too live working on-campus and assisting new students at College. The hardest part of my job is to brain-storm and keep thinking in the creative way, and then implement the best ideas. The thing I enjoy the most comes from the hardest part of my job. It is I love implementing the ideas that I planned during the difficult part of my job. I really love my job and its fun and interesting.

Toxic environment
I have had contracts at 8 colleges/universities around the GTA. Sheridan is the worst of them all to work for. The assistant deans are on power trips, they try to set up faculty for failure on purpose - they “cleaned house” and let go of experienced staff 8-10yrs working there - because they didn’t like people who knew what they were doing....with no notice they decide to not renew contracts to employees who have spent years there. They believe students over staff and undermine and question faculty. There is zero support and it is the most stressful and toxic work environment I’ve ever been too. There is no recourse for contract staff and no complaints process they all cover for each other and I would never recommend working for the department I was in... I am hopeful other programs have better leadership ....
Points positifsPay was adequate, hours good
Points négatifsNo support, stressful, lies, set up to fail....

Amazing Work Place
You would sign in at work and check any e-mails that you might have gotten from any new students. Once you had finished replying back to them we had advertising and marketing ideas we had to brainstorm and execute as well. When that work was finished, any helped needed at the resource desk was asked of us. I had learned interpersonal skills by interacting with other students in need of reliable information. The supervisors and management was amazing and super friendly. I couldn't have asked for a better set of co-workers for that year, we just got along so well. The most enjoyable thing about the job was the fact I had helped students entering post-secondary education, no knowing what is happening, and being their first and reliable interaction towards their journey.
Points positifsAmazing environment
Points négatifsDealing with a lot of information

Fantastic workplace with positive atmosphere!
I love being able to work for my school. I feel extremely involved and happy to be learning in the environment that I'm in. I want to make sure other people understand how wonderful Sheridan life can be, so I wanted to share my experiences with other potential students. I am often met with smiling excited people who are willing to listen and learn about the school. The team I work with is absolutely fantastic, and everyone is so hard working. The managers are full of smiles and happiness everytime I see them, and I couldn't be happier working for the school I love!
Points positifsFree food at special events, meeting new people outside of program, learning more about the school, flexible hours.
Points négatifsCan be intimidating when leading big tour crowds, occasionally unusual questions can be difficult to answer.

Very hectic but enjoyable workplace.
I enjoy helping the students with their assignments and citation questions. It gets a bit hectic when students get impatient, but I calmly tell them that I will help them momentarily as I am helping another student. I also often help to answer online question through our chat function the same time as I am helping students in person. My co-workers are great, and really support my wanting to become full time. I constantly apply for full time positions asking for feedback each time, then I correct what I did not have the last time, only to be given another hurdle to cross in the next interview. My management tends to like that I am very flexible in my work schedule, and so is in no hurry to promote me to full time.
Points positifsAlways being busy and helping students to succeed
Points négatifsNot being able to get a full time position.

Gym Attendant: Easy job but management isn't the best
1 person from management acts like a child. When ever he's having a bad bay, he makes sure everyone else is having bad day. He also doesn't know personal boundaries and makes his employees very uncomfortable at times. You normally just do some typical cleaning duties to start the morning such as vacuuming the weight-room floor, sweeping, and towel-mopping the gymnasium floor. Customer service is essential. You have to scan each students onecard for them to enter the facilities. The best part of the job is attending varsity basketball games working as the "key cleaner" mopping up sweat from the athletes. Sounds bad, but you get to watch the whole game front row where all the action is so your shift passes by in no time.
Points positifsVarsity basketball games
Points négatifsmanagement, pay is just barely above minimum

nice students but no job security and no community support
Students were lovely and great class sizes but this is a very lonely place to teach with absolutely no guarantees for job advancement or job security. Although the odd person is helpful the administration and management have high expectations on each teacher yet provide very little guidance or assistance. Furthermore, the turn over rate is high for contract workers and they are made to feel like they are not valued, required or appreciated (only full timers seem to matter) yet these workers are still required to attend meetings and provide ideas and feedback. These seems counter productive and adds a lot of stress to the individual worker.
Points positifsnice students
Points négatifshigh level of anxiety due to lack of job security

Education & Employment experience by Sheridan College
As a co-op experience, I really enjoyed working at Sheridan College - IT. The team was very close knit and easy going. I also had an excellent mentor and supervisor. The IT department was very well managed. As a part of my education and employment, I have been given many opportunities for volunteer work. I am proud to say that I that continue to volunteer within Sheridan College when time permits. Sheridan College is very Student and Staff focused. Housing over 5000 students and staff, it is very easy to find a helping hand where ever you are within the campus. I would definitely recommend Sheridan college for Education, Employment, or Volunteering opportunities.
Points positifsvery friendly, modern

Safety Walk | Oakville, ON | 14 mai 2013
Fun and ideal Job for any college student.
A typical day at work consisted of me and my co-worker walking around Sheridan's campus asking if anyone would like a walk to their cars (between 6pm and 11pm). I learned how to be more sociable, how to be across as kind and trustworthy to make the people we are walking more comfortable. All co-workers were very friendly and easy to get along with. The hardest part of the job was walking around with nothing to do when no one wanted to be walked to their cars. The most enjoyably part was knowing that you eased the worries of the people you were walking, and that you know they left the campus safe and happy.
Points positifsDiscount on food offered at the school.
Points négatifsNothing to do a lof of the time.
