Our litigation practice is concentrated in civil and commercial disputes, with particular depth in real estate litigation and mortgage enforcement. Associates work directly with the partners and carry meaningful responsibility on their files from the outset.
The Role
We are hiring an associate with one to three years of call to practice civil litigation, with a focus on real estate litigation and mortgage enforcement. The successful candidate will assume carriage of files with partner supervision and will appear regularly in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
Core Responsibilities
- Carriage of civil litigation files, with increasing independence as experience develops
- Mortgage enforcement matters, including power of sale proceedings, actions on the covenant, default and summary judgment motions, and writs of possession
- Real estate litigation, including certificates of pending litigation, vendor and purchaser disputes, and specific performance claims
- Drafting pleadings, motion records, facta, and affidavits
- Motion attendances, case conferences, pre-trials, and examinations for discovery
- Direct client contact, including reporting and instructions
Qualifications
- Licensed by the Law Society of Ontario and in good standing, with one to three years of call
- A Juris Doctorate from an accredited University in Canada
- Civil litigation experience in Ontario, including drafting and court attendances
- Strong written advocacy and clean, concise drafting
- Experience in real estate litigation, mortgage enforcement, or debt recovery is a strong asset
Compensation
Base salary of $70,000 to $100,000 per year, commensurate with year of call and experience.
