About the Opportunity
Do you have a passion for history, community engagement, and inspiring the next generation of curious minds? The Mission District Historical Society is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Museum Assistant to join the team at the Mission Museum for the autumn of 2026.
In this role, you'll take support the Programming & Collections Coordinated in furthering the Museum’s collections inventory projects and spearheading an upgrade of the off-site storage facilities. You’ll also assist in the design and delivery of exciting educational programs for local community audiences of all ages. This is an outstanding opportunity to gain hands-on experience in museum programming, public outreach, and community education and collections management and care.
What You'll Be Doing
· Greeting and assisting visitors and providing them with a warm and informative introduction to the museum's exhibits and collections. This includes monitoring exhibit areas to ensure the safety and security of artefacts and visitors, while also addressing any visitor inquiries
· Helping to further Museum inventory backlog projects along with cataloguing artefacts, including identifying, numbering, data entry, photo documentation, while observing proper conservation and storage techniques
· Spearheading a project to upgrade offsite storage facilities, including deep cleaning, organizing and maintaining storage space while determining new storage solutions to increase storage capacity
· Identifying objects for deaccession in the Museum’s collection following the established collections mandate and policies, including selecting, researching and reporting on the proposed objects
· Performing meticulous historical research
- Updating and maintaining the PP5 museum records database
Pay: $20.50 per hour
