Job Summary
We are seeking two kind, patient, reliable in-home caregivers to support a 90-year-old woman with progressing dementia. The role is primarily companion care, gentle supervision, and helping her maintain daily routines in a safe, calm, and respectful way. She currently manages most activities of daily living independently, but because of memory loss she may forget important daily needs such as eating meals, drinking fluids, showering, changing clothes, taking medications, or keeping appointments. The caregiver’s role is to provide warm companionship, frequent gentle reminders, and practical support so she can continue living safely and comfortably in her own home. These are currently daytime/evening positions, not live-in roles. The focus is on morning and evening routines, safety, companionship, meal support, transportation to appointments, and light household support.
Duties
- Provide companionship and a calm, reassuring presence during the day.
- Help maintain a safe home environment and reduce risks related to dementia, including risks related to cooking, falling, confusion, missed meals, or unsafe household activity.
- Offer gentle, respectful reminders for meals, hydration, showers, clean clothing, medication routines, and other daily needs.
- Prepare simple meals and snacks.
- Encourage regular eating and drinking.
- Support normal daily routines, including conversation, walks, light activities, puzzles, reading, television, music, or other pleasant engagement.
- Provide transportation to appointments and accompany her as needed.
- Observe and report any meaningful changes in mood, memory, appetite, hygiene, mobility, sleep, medication routine, or general health.
- Provide light housekeeping, including dishes, laundry, tidying, changing bed linens, wiping surfaces, taking out garbage/recycling, and keeping the kitchen and bathroom clean.
- Communicate regularly with family members about how she is doing and any concerns that arise.
- Provide basic care for two cats as needed, such as feeding, fresh water, and light litter-box attention.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home care environments is highly preferred
- Knowledge of senior care practices including hospice care, dementia care, and working with individuals with disabilities
- Strong senior care skills combined with compassion and patience
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively and respectfully with client and family members
- Certification or training in caregiving or nursing assistance is a plus but not mandatory
- Must be reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to providing respectful and dignified care
- Criminal record check and references required.
Pay: $23.00-$27.00 per hour
