Status: Contract, Full-Time
JOB SUMMARY
The Educational Assistant shall work under the direction and guidance of the classroom teachers and under the general supervision of the Principal. The Principal shall assign the tasks and duties and the teachers whom the Educational Assistant are responsible to and work for. The Educational Assistants shall be willing to take direction from professional staff, and work with children in a caring, understanding, helpful, sensitive, and pleasant manner.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- Early Childhood Education Certificate or Educational Assistant Certificate or Youth Care Worker Diploma or Disability Support Worker Diploma, Human Services Diploma, or related post-secondary training from a recognized institution. Combination of education, training, and experience working with children and youth may be considered.
- Experience supporting students within educational, childcare, youth development, disability support, behavioural support, or community-based settings.
- Knowledge of child development, early childhood education principles, and student learning needs. Behavioural support strategies, positive behaviour interventions, and trauma-informed approaches. Inclusive education practices and student support services. Child and youth wellness, social-emotional development, and relationship-based approaches to supporting students, student safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and school operations.
- Knowledge of nehiyaw language, culture, teachings, traditions, values, and Indigenous ways of knowing and learning.
- Knowledge of confidentiality requirements, privacy principles, and professional boundaries. Strong interpersonal, communication, observation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to support students with diverse educational, developmental, behavioural, social-emotional, physical, and personal care needs implement educational plans, behavioural interventions, accommodations, and support strategies under the direction of Teachers and school administration.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation, observations, and student records.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary educational teams and to exercise sound judgment, discretion, patience, and professionalism when supporting students and families.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, educational technologies, and electronic documentation systems.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- WHMIS and First Aid /CPR certificate,
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
- Vulnerable Sector Check and clean drug test will be required
