JOB OVERVIEW
The Family Engagement Worker supports the successful operations of Xatśūll First Nation’s Family Wellness program in alignment with the organization’s vision, objectives, and strategic direction. The role is focused on community engagement, outreach, and ensuring the integration of community feedback into the child and family jurisdiction work under the Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth, and families (previously Bill C-92). The Family Engagement Worker will play a key role in facilitating communication between the community and the Child and Family Jurisdiction team, helping to ensure that the jurisdiction transition reflects the needs and values of Xatśūll members. This role involves regular interaction with diverse community groups, and it requires strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Family Engagement Worker is responsible for the following key functions.
Community Outreach and Engagement
- Conduct outreach efforts to engage with Xatśūll community members, including families, Elders, youth, and other stakeholders, to gather input on child and family services.
- Organize community meetings, forums, and focus groups to facilitate feedback and participation in the child and family jurisdiction transition process.
- Collaborate with the Family Wellness team to ensure that feedback from the community is incorporated into policies, programs, and service delivery models.
Support for Policy Development
- Assist in gathering information and community input for the development of child and family laws and policies.
- Work with community members to identify priorities, concerns, and suggestions related to child and family services.
- Help ensure that all developed policies reflect Xatśūll culture, language, and traditional values.
Communications and Advocacy
- Support the development and dissemination of educational materials and communication strategies to raise awareness of the child and family jurisdiction transition.
- Represent the community’s interests in various meetings, providing updates on engagement activities and gathering feedback for the Director of Community Services.
Relationship Building
- Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with community members and key stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for community inquiries regarding child and family jurisdiction activities.
- Help facilitate positive relationships between Xatśūll families and external agencies or stakeholders as needed.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of engagement activities, including feedback, meeting notes, and recommendations from community members.
- Provide regular reports to the Family Wellness Program Manager, summarizing engagement efforts and community responses.
Other duties as assigned/required.

- Maintains open and professional communications with co-workers, leadership and all others who do business with Xatśūll First Nation.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRMENTS
Indigenous Perspective
- Knowledge of Secwepemc culture and traditions.
- Understand and incorporate traditional healing practices and Secwepemc cultural values into service.
- A minimum of 2 years working in First Nation Communities & organizations.
Western Ways
- Diploma in Social Services, Counseling, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in community engagement, social services, or a related field.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must have a valid driver’s license (BC Class 5) and satisfactory driving record.
- Criminal records check (vulnerable sector).
Preferred:
- Knowledge and appreciation of working in service of Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
- Knowledge of Bill C-92 and the First Nations jurisdiction over child and family services
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Dealing with tight timelines/competing priorities/budget constraints.
- Dealing with highly sensitive situations, crisis management and conflict resolution.
- Making difficult decisions that may have impact on others.
- Work long hours using computer.
- Work may include standing, sitting, crouching, kneeling, bending, and/or walking.
- Work is performed primarily in office and in community.
- Flexible hours are required, with some evenings and weekends.
- Occasional travel is required.
