We're looking for a hands-on IT Manager to own the day-to-day administration of our technology environment. You will be the most senior technical resource administering our infrastructure, cloud environment, and network on a daily basis, while also supervising a small internal team. The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly in the environment, configuring systems, troubleshooting infrastructure, and deploying software to end users, while also mentoring and directing the work of the team.
Key Responsibilities
IT Operations
- Administer Microsoft 365, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and SharePoint.
- Manage our small on-premises data center, including a VMware environment, storage, backups, and disaster recovery.
- Maintain our network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Manage ISP relationships and internet service.
- Administer our RMM platform across all endpoints for monitoring, patching, and remote support.
- Ensure high system availability through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Maintain our cybersecurity program, including identity management, MFA, Conditional Access, and endpoint protection.
- Develop and maintain IT policies, standards, and security procedures.
- Coordinate disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing.
Business Applications
- Support and maintain business-critical applications, including ERP and CRM systems.
- Participate in the evaluation, migration, and implementation of new business systems as directed, including potential future initiatives involving Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Business Central and CRM).
- Evaluate, procure, and deploy business software for end users, maintaining accurate hardware, software, and cloud asset inventories.
- Manage software licensing renewals and vendor relationships for business applications.
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor members of the IT team, including Help Desk and Software Development, setting priorities and supporting their development.
- Provide senior-level technical escalation for complex infrastructure and application issues that exceed what the Help Desk Technician can resolve.
- Build a responsive, customer-focused IT culture across the organization.
Vendor & Asset Management
- Manage relationships with external IT vendors, consultants, and service providers.
- Prepare and manage the IT operating and capital budgets.
- Negotiate software licensing, maintenance agreements, and technology purchases.
- Procure and provision laptops and end-user hardware for staff.
User Support
- Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding, including account provisioning, equipment setup, and access management.
- Maintain accurate, current IT documentation, procedures, and system configurations.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible, hands-on IT infrastructure experience, ideally including some supervisory responsibility.
- Strong, current hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, and Azure.
- Solid experience with VMware virtualization, Windows Server, and Active Directory.
- Experience managing business-grade networking, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless infrastructure.
- Experience with RMM tools, endpoint protection platforms, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Comfortable being the sole or primary hands-on technical resource for infrastructure, not just an escalation point.
- Experience managing vendors, budgets, and technology projects.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work on-site daily in Elmira and reside within a reasonable commute of the Kitchener-Waterloo region.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and CRM, or similar cloud ERP platforms
- ERP migration or implementation experience.
- PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Professional certifications such as Microsoft, VMware, or CISSP are considered assets.
You are described as a practical, hands-on problem solver that can relate and influence people. You take ownership of equipment and process performance and focus on measurable impact and continuous improvement. If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you.
