About Us
InfernoEnergy is a growing electrical and solar solutions provider based in Edmonton, delivering reliable, high-quality service to homes and businesses. We're on a clear growth trajectory, and we're building the financial backbone to support it. This is a chance to own the numbers for a company that's scaling — and to shape how we do it.
The Role
We're looking for a technically excellent, self-sufficient Senior Accountant to take full ownership of our finance function. Our current accountant is retiring, and our books are in excellent shape — your first job is to keep them that way, running the full accounting cycle independently from day one. Your second, bigger opportunity is to build on the financial tools we've already developed (cash flow forecasting, overhead modeling, and project-level reporting) and use them to help the business make sharper decisions.
This is a hands-on role that spans finance and some operational administration. You won't be managing a team on day one — you'll be the finance function, with support from our Office Administrator on day-to-day tasks. As the company grows, so does this seat. If you're an accountant who wants to understand the operations behind the numbers and use accounting to drive better decisions, this is built for you.
What You'll Own — Finance
- Full-cycle accounting: AP, AR (including invoicing, collections, and statutory declarations), bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Payroll: time tracking, preparation and submission, source deduction remittances, ROEs
- General ledger: account setup, reconciliation and analysis, tax remittances, amortization, prepaids
- Financial reporting: balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement
- Budgeting and cash flow forecasting — maintaining and improving our existing forecasting tools
- Work-in-progress and project accounting — critical in our project-based business
- Year-end: preparing the accountant's file, T4s, T4As, T5018s, annual WCB return
- Inventory tracking (with support from our Office Admin)
Where This Role Goes
The real value you'll add is beyond the books. We want someone who will:
- Find efficiencies and improve how the business runs, not just report on it
- Build reporting that other parts of the business actually use to make decisions
- Bring analytics to areas like staffing, cost-to-hire, and workforce planning
- Make our accounting serve the business — not force the business to serve the accounting
Operational & Administrative Responsibilities
This role also carries a practical, hands-on administrative component. With support from our Office Coordinator, you'll manage:
- Employee benefits administration
- First drafts of employment agreements and HR policies from templates, and administering HR policies
- Company insurance, WCB coverage, and vehicle registration
- Compliance software (ComplyWorks, Avetta) and safety/COR administration, including SiteDocs training records and inspection scheduling
- Fleet fuel cards, company cell phones, and vendor/service coordination
What You Bring
- Full-cycle accounting experience including payroll, ideally in a project-based, construction, or trades environment
- A business/accounting degree or diploma with significant senior-level experience — what matters most is that you can run this function independently and reliably from your first week (CPA welcome but not required)
- High competency with Excel (advanced — you'll be working in and building financial models) and QuickBooks Online
- Comfort learning and working across our software stack: QBO, OneDrive/SharePoint, Microsoft Office, project costing/mgmt/purchasing software
- Strong attention to detail, deadline discipline, and the trustworthiness to handle confidential financial information
- A genuine curiosity about the business behind the numbers
Our Core Values
- Put yourself in the shoes of the customer
- Provide solutions
- Do what you say
- Own the outcome
- Never stop learning
- Set our people up for success
