Overview
The ROC Society is one of the 10 approved Organizations to provide the service of HomeShare. HomeShare is a community living option through the Disability Support Program, for people with disabilities. HomeShare promotes inclusion and autonomy for all Nova Scotians. We are currently looking for HomeShare Providers who, if successfully complete the Home Study , will open their home to an individual seeking a family-like living situation. HomeShare Providers and the supported person will be thoughtfully matched based on the individual's person-directed plan and mutual likes, hobbies, and community activities. Providers can make a positive difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities by offering safe, supportive, and enriching home-sharing experiences. In this role, you will serve as a compassionate support and reliable companion, fostering independence and community connection. This paid position provides an opportunity to empower others while building rewarding relationships in a respectful and nurturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide personalized care and support to individuals with disabilities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
- Assist with daily living activities such as meal preparation, personal hygiene, and mobility support
- Administer medications accurately according to prescribed schedules and document all medication-related activities
- Use effective communication skills to facilitate clear understanding and meaningful interaction
- Support individuals in participating in community activities, outings, and social engagements to promote independence
- Maintain detailed records of care provided, health updates, and any incidents or concerns
- Collaborate with families, HomeShare Coordinators, and support teams to develop and follow individualized support plans
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in caregiving roles is highly preferred
- Knowledge of special education principles or training is a plus
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with individuals, families, and support teams
- Ability to administer medications safely and responsibly following prescribed instructions
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine desire to support independence and quality of life for others
- Reliable, patient, adaptable, and committed to providing consistent care
