ROLE OVERVIEW
Streamline Control is hiring a Senior Software Developer to help lead the design and architecture of our Snowflake- and Databricks-based applications and analytical processes, and to drive the adoption of agile methodologies and engineering best practices across our development teams. You will shape how we turn large volumes of operational data into reliable, high-value software — setting technical direction, guiding architectural decisions, and mentoring fellow developers — while remaining hands-on across the full development lifecycle.
This is a senior technical role with significant influence over engineering standards, delivery practices, and platform direction. You will collaborate closely with our engineers, solution architects, and OT specialists to deliver solutions our clients depend on, and you will help our teams build proficiency with modern AI-assisted development tools including Claude Code.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership and Architecture
- Lead the design and architecture of Snowflake- and Databricks-based applications and analytical processes, from concept through implementation.
- Define and evolve technical standards, patterns, and architectural guidelines that keep our platforms scalable and maintainable.
- Partner cross-functionally with solution architects, OT specialists, and business stakeholders to translate operational requirements into technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise application and data platform performance across production environments.
Data Platform Engineering
- Build and optimise data pipelines and analytics solutions on Snowflake, Databricks, and adjacent cloud data platforms.
- Design robust integrations between industrial data sources (historians, SCADA, IIoT streams) and downstream analytics workloads.
- Contribute to the evolution of Streamline's reference architectures for operational data, analytics, and reporting.
Software Craftsmanship and Quality
- Write clean, well-documented, and testable code across multiple programming languages.
- Establish and maintain automated tests — unit, integration, and end-to-end — to ensure software quality and delivery confidence.
- Use Git and modern version control workflows (branching strategies, pull requests, code review) to support effective collaborative development.
Agile Delivery and AI-Assisted Development
- Champion and drive the adoption of agile methodologies and engineering best practices across development teams.
- Facilitate agile ceremonies — sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives — and continuously improve team delivery cadence and quality.
- Drive the team's adoption of and skill development with Claude Code, establishing best practices for AI-assisted development, prompt design, and safe automation of engineering tasks.
Mentorship and Team Development
- Mentor and guide fellow developers through code reviews, pair programming, and structured knowledge sharing.
- Model strong engineering habits and support the professional growth of the wider software team.
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and technical capability planning as the team scales.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, including a track record of leading technical design and architecture.
- Hands-on experience designing and building applications and analytical processes on Snowflake and Databricks.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Golang, Python, Java, Scala, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#).
- Strong command of software application architecture, design patterns, and scalable system design.
- Demonstrated experience driving the adoption of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or similar) and engineering best practices across teams.
- Hands-on experience with Claude Code (or comparable AI-assisted / agentic coding tools), with an interest in helping others build proficiency.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development practices.
- Strong working knowledge of Git and version control workflows — branching, pull requests, and code review.
- Proven ability to mentor developers and influence technical direction.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure providers (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, and data warehousing concepts.
- Prior experience mentoring peers or leading technical initiatives within a consulting, product, or platform environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Architect and builder — comfortable moving between high-level design decisions and hands-on implementation without losing rigour at either level.
- Pragmatic leader — sets clear technical direction and standards while remaining open to input and evidence.
- Mentor and multiplier — genuinely invested in raising the capability of the developers around them.
- Modern practitioner — actively curious about AI-assisted development, automation, and evolving engineering practices.
- Clear communicator — able to explain technical trade-offs to engineering peers, solution architects, and business stakeholders alike.
- Delivery-focused — balances quality, maintainability, and shipping working software on realistic timelines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hybrid working from the Calgary office with occasional travel to client sites across western Canada as required.
- Standard business hours with flexibility during release windows, incident response, and critical delivery milestones.
- Collaborative work with cross-functional Streamline teams including OT Specialists, SCADA Specialists, and Historian and Business Intelligence Specialists.
