JOB OVERVIEW
Cold Bore Technology is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our growing Software Infrastructure team. Reporting to the Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software while identifying areas of improvement in support of Cold Bore’s operations. The infrastructure team is responsible for deploying and maintaining essential operational software for data acquisition, databases, data streaming, and APIs. This role is an opportunity for a self-starter to grow their experience in the exciting world of high tech, working with some of the smartest people in the industry to revolutionize completions through IIoT technology. Working in a fast-paced team environment, this role requires a self-motivated individual with a strong collaborative spirit and a high level of innovation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in code reviews, system design discussions, and incident debugging
- Improve system observability, reliability, and performance
- Drive continuous delivery by participating in agile development, including estimating effort and complexity of new features and tasks.
- Produce robust and maintainable code, improving software team quality standards through example and leadership.
- Operating the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health.
- Design systems architecture, including infrastructure that enables continuous integration and delivery.
- Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions (infrastructure-as-code and configuration management).
- Provide primary operational support and engineering.
- Design test strategy, including automated test cases to ensure software quality.
- Lead projects, gathering requirements, setting timelines, communicating milestones, and proactively troubleshooting.
- Help operate Cold Bore’s edge platform (embedded systems, IIoT).
- Help operate Cold Bore’s cloud platform (cloud app and API) with a Site Reliability Engineering approach.
- Containerize applications and deploy them using Docker and/or Kubernetes
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests
- Mentor and lead junior developers, performing code reviews and delivering meaningful feedback.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- 3–7 years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building and maintaining backend systems in production
- Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of at least one language in our stack (Python, Rust, or Elixir) is considered an asset.
- Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL or similar)
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines
- Experience using Docker and/or Kubernetes in a production environment
- Experience writing and maintaining unit and integration tests
- Proficiency with Git and collaborative code review workflows
- Comfortable working in a Linux-based environment
- Experience writing automated test code (unit tests, integration tests, etc.).
- Experience with Continuous Delivery/Continuous Integration (CD/CI) pipelines such as Gitlab-CI, Jenkins, or similar.
- Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience configuring infrastructure using technologies such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.
- Hands-on contributor – you enjoy writing code, solving complex problems and being in the trenches.
- Experience and desire to mentor others through example and constructive feedback.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Someone who enjoys collaborating and engaging with members from their team and others
NICE TO HAVE
- Event-driven or message-based architectures (RabbitMQ, Kafka, etc.)
- Experience with distributed systems or high-throughput data pipelines
- Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform, Helm, etc.)
- Advanced knowledge of Python, Rust, or Elixir.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL open-source database.
- Knowledge of TimescaleDB open-source time-series database.
- Experience with Kubernetes deployments
- Experience with database administration is considered an asset.
