Reporting to the Water Management & Geotechnical Engineering Supervisor, you will be part of the Environment and Critical Infrastructure Department. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
You will be responsible for the management and performance of dewatering systems, tailings storage facility dikes and dams, and associated infrastructure at both the Meadowbank and Whale Tail sites. The ideal candidate enjoys field-based work, technical problem-solving, and seeing projects through from concept to implementation. Working closely with a small but diverse team, you will identify challenges, develop practical engineering solutions, and lead the planning, design, and execution of projects that support the safe and efficient operation of critical water and tailings management infrastructure.
Ensure the performance of the tailings and water management infrastructure as per OMS manual procedure;
Perform field inspection and analyze geotechnical instrumentation data (i.e piezometers, thermistors);
Ensure internal and external recommended actions are implemented, following surveillance activities such as the Annual Dam Safety Inspection;
Prepare engineering documents (specifications, design report, drawings) for tailings deposition & water management infrastructure;
Design of various earthwork infrastructures as needed, such as channels, ditches, roads, culvert crossing, ponds, berms, finger dikes, and other remediation works;
Provide technical expertise and implement engineering solutions to ensure the performance of the water & tailings management infrastructure;
Project management, QA/QC, and as-built reporting for the construction and maintenance of water & tailings infrastructures;
Plan and coordinate geotechnical investigations and geotechnical instrumentation campaigns;
Plan and coordinate construction sequencing for progressive closure activities;
Plan tailings deposition activities with Muk3D software;
Analyze the performance of the tailings deposition to the deposition plan;
Project management of geotechnical mandates with consultants, including review of detailed design packages;
Prepare and present yearly Independent Review Board presentations;
Complete various projects assigned by the Water Management & Geotechnical Engineering Supervisor.
Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related field;
3-5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering applied to the mining industry;
Experience with earthwork construction and field work is a strong asset;
Experience with permafrost environment is considered an asset;
Knowledge of design software and computer assisted drawing software (CAD) is considered an asset;
Member of a Canadian Engineering society and eligible to NAPEG membership;
Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
