Join Our Nursing Leadership Team
Glen Hill Gardens is a brand-new, modern long-term care home in Bowmanville, designed to provide a welcoming, comfortable and contemporary environment for residents, families and employees. As we continue to build and strengthen our team in our new Home, we are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic nursing professional to join our leadership team as Assistant Director of Care – Education & Professional Practice (ADOC-EPP).
This newly created position is a unique leadership opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) who enjoys developing others, strengthening professional practice and supporting high-quality resident care. Combining nursing management with education and professional practice, the ADOC-EPP works closely with the Director of Care and nursing leadership team to support the day-to-day management, supervision and development of our Nursing Department.
The ADOC-EPP also leads our general orientation program for all newly hired employees, helping create a welcoming, consistent and effective introduction to Glen Hill Gardens.
What You'll Do
As a member of the nursing leadership team, you will:
- Provide leadership, direction, supervision and coaching to nursing employees.
- Support the Director of Care with the day-to-day management and operation of the Nursing Department.
- Participate in recruitment, orientation, probationary reviews, performance management, workplace investigations and progressive discipline involving nursing employees.
- Provide management coverage, share on-call responsibilities, and assume nursing management responsibilities in the absence of, or as delegated by, the Director of Care.
- Lead and coordinate the Home's general orientation program for all newly hired employees in collaboration with departmental leaders.
- Develop, coordinate and evaluate nursing orientation, education and professional development programs.
- Assess and validate nursing competencies and provide coaching, education and follow-up where opportunities for improvement are identified.
- Provide guidance to nursing employees regarding professional practice, scope of practice, documentation, policies and College of Nurses of Ontario standards.
- Act as a clinical resource and mentor and support the introduction of evidence-informed practices, clinical initiatives and changes in policies and procedures.
- Participate in quality improvement, audits, risk management and regulatory processes, identifying education and corrective actions where required.
- Monitor and maintain records relating to orientation, nursing education, competency validation and required training.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and the interdisciplinary team to promote safe, resident-centred care and effective Nursing Department operations.
What You Bring
- Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- A minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care.
- Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and/or management experience within a nursing or health-care environment.
- Experience with staff orientation, clinical education, competency development and/or professional practice.
- Strong knowledge of gerontological nursing, professional nursing practice and Ontario long-term care requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to assess competency, coach and develop employees, and effectively address performance concerns.
- Excellent leadership, communication, facilitation, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills and comfort working with electronic documentation and learning systems.
- Knowledge of adult-learning principles and staff development practices is considered an asset.
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to:
- Provide a satisfactory Police Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening, completed within the six (6) months preceding the start of employment, in accordance with Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements.
- Provide satisfactory evidence of a two-step TB test (or other documentation where applicable), in accordance with Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements.
- Comply with Durham Christian Homes' COVID-19 Immunization Policy.
Employment will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of all applicable pre-employment requirements.

Salary Range: $72,000 – $105,000 annually. Starting salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's nursing designation (RN/RPN), relevant experience, leadership experience and overall qualifications.
