The CBY Academy of Performing Arts in Waterdown is currently seeking substitute music teachers to join our team for September 2026.
We are looking for skilled, passionate music teachers across the following disciplines:
- Piano
- Voice (Singing)
- Guitar
- Drums
- Music Theory
- Flute
Multi-instrumentalists are strongly preferred.
The Ideal Candidate:
The successful candidate will ideally possess the following:
- 5+ years’ experience as a musician, music student, and/or performer.
- 3+ years of proven music teaching experience.
- Familiarity with examination syllabi such as RCM or Conservatory Canada (preferred but not required).
- Strong sight-reading, music theory, and repertoire knowledge.
- Excellent instrumental proficiency (a practical demonstration of playing ability will be required during the interview process).
- Familiarity with commonly used teaching method books.
- Accredited musical qualifications (RCM, Conservatory Canada, diploma, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent) are preferred.
- A confident, energetic, and engaging teaching style with the ability to connect with children and young people.
- Residence within approximately 20-25 km of Waterdown, Ontario.
Applicants without formal qualifications are still encouraged to apply if they can demonstrate equivalent experience in music performance, teaching, and musicianship.

About the Role:
Private music lessons at CBY operate seven days a week from our purpose-built studio in the heart of Waterdown, Ontario.
Our teaching hours are:
- Monday-Friday: 3:30 pm-9:30 pm
- Saturday: 9:00 am-5:00 pm
- Sunday: 10:00 am-5:00 pm
Working hours will vary depending on your availability and the Academy’s substitute teaching requirements.
Please note that this position is for inclusion on our substitute teacher roster. Successful applicants will be contacted on an as-needed basis, often at short notice, to cover lessons when one of our principal teachers is unavailable. Placement on our substitute roster does not guarantee a minimum number of working hours.
As the Academy continues to grow, there may be opportunities for substitute teachers to transition into permanent principal teaching positions.
