Kitchen Manager
Barley Station Brew Pub | Salmon Arm, BC
Barley Station Brew Pub is looking for an experienced Kitchen Manager to lead our back-of-house team.
We're not simply looking for a chef - we're looking for an exceptional kitchen leader.
Someone who can build a strong team, coach people, create consistency, manage costs, and deliver outstanding food every day.
Our kitchen is well established with a dedicated team, loyal guests, and a busy operation. We're looking for someone who enjoys developing people, building systems, and creating a positive, accountable culture while maintaining consistently excellent food.
About Us
Barley Station Brew Pub is a locally owned brewpub and one of five restaurants owned and operated by Canokanne Foods in the Okanagan and Shuswap.
Although each of our restaurants has its own identity, we work closely together, sharing ideas, systems, and best practices. Our Kitchen Managers collaborate with our Executive Chef/Head of Operations, General Managers, and ownership team to continually improve our food program and operations.
Joining Barley Station means you'll never be on your own. You'll have the support of an experienced leadership team, opportunities to learn from colleagues across our restaurants, and the chance to grow your career within a locally owned company that believes in investing in its people.
A Collaborative Culinary Role
This position is ideal for someone who loves leading kitchens just as much as cooking.
Our menu is developed by our Executive Chef/Head of Operations, with your input. Your primary focus will be executing our recipes consistently, maintaining exceptional food quality, coaching your team, and continually improving kitchen operations.
That said, we welcome creativity. You'll have opportunities to develop daily features, seasonal specials, and event menus while contributing ideas that enhance our food program. We're looking for someone who enjoys being part of a collaborative culinary team and takes pride in delivering great food every single day.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Leading, coaching, and inspiring an existing kitchen team
- Creating a positive culture built on accountability and teamwork
- Hiring, onboarding, and training new staff
- Scheduling labour effectively while controlling costs
- Managing inventory and food ordering
- Monitoring food costs and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Ensuring recipes, portions, and plating remain consistent
- Maintaining exceptional food quality and kitchen cleanliness
- Supporting and developing sous chefs and supervisors
- Working service shifts alongside the team when needed
- Maintaining FoodSafe, health and safety, and sanitation standards
We're Looking For Someone Who
- Has previous experience leading a busy restaurant kitchen
- Is an excellent people manager first and a great cook second
- Enjoys building systems and developing people
- Knows how to coach rather than simply doing everything themselves
- Builds strong teams and holds people accountable with respect
- Understands food costing, inventory management, labour control, and ordering
- Is organized and comfortable using systems and checklists
- Communicates calmly under pressure
- Leads by example and earns the respect of their team
- Appreciates consistency and understands the importance of recipe execution
- Enjoys collaborating with others while contributing ideas and continuous improvement
- Wants to build a long-term career rather than simply fill a position
The Kind of Leader You'll Be
You believe the best kitchen isn't the one where the manager works 80 hours a week—it's the one where the entire team succeeds together.
You delegate effectively.
You train people thoroughly.
You build systems that make everyone's job easier.
You create consistency without sacrificing culture.
You know that developing people is just as important as preparing great food.
We're Looking For Someone Who Wants To Build Something
We're looking for more than someone to keep the kitchen running - we're looking for someone who wants to make it better.
Someone who enjoys developing people, strengthening systems, improving consistency, and creating a kitchen where great food and a great team culture go hand in hand.
You'll have the opportunity to contribute ideas, help shape the future of the Barley Station kitchen, and work with a leadership team that values collaboration, continuous improvement, and long-term thinking.
If that sounds like the kind of environment where you'll thrive, we'd love to hear from you.
What We Offer
- Salary of $62,000–$72,000 plus participation in kitchen tip-out
- Two weeks of paid vacation, increasing to three weeks after one year of employment
- Company-wide staff discounts
- Optional involvement in our company's extended benefits program
- A collaborative leadership team that values ideas, continuous improvement, and professional growth
- The opportunity to grow your career within a locally owned company with multiple restaurants and future opportunities
If you're passionate about leadership, hospitality, operational excellence, and building great teams, we'd love to hear from you.
