As our company continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Custom Cabinetmaker / Millworker to join our team.
Position Overview
This is NOT an entry-level position. Cedar Ridge Designs is seeking a skilled, seasoned cabinetry/millwork woodworker who can work efficiently, independently, and confidently in a custom woodworking environment.
The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in woodworking and custom millwork and be capable of troubleshooting, problem-solving, making sound decisions, and efficiently producing high-quality custom components with minimal supervision.
The role requires the ability to interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications and translate them into precise, high-quality finished components. The candidate must have strong knowledge of woodworking materials, fabrication methods, machinery, joinery, and finishing requirements.
Cedar Ridge Designs will provide training on health and safety requirements, equipment specific to our shop, company processes, and CRD quality standards. However, the successful candidate must already possess a strong technical foundation and practical woodworking experience.
Our work primarily involves solid wood, veneers applied to particle-core and MDF-core substrates, and MDF components that are prepared for lacquer finishing. The ability to grade and select lumber based on colour, grain, and overall consistency is an important part of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately interpret blueprints, shop drawings, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Fabricate high-quality custom cabinetry and millwork components to precise measurements and specifications.
- Grade, select, and prepare solid lumber based on colour, grain pattern, and consistency to achieve a uniform finished product.
- Work extensively with solid wood, veneers on particle-core and MDF-core substrates, and MDF for lacquer finishing.
- Operate a variety of woodworking machinery, including but not limited to:
- Jointer
- Planer
- Shaper
- Table saw
- Miter saw
- Drum sander
- Membrane press
- Other woodworking equipment
- Troubleshoot fabrication and material issues independently and determine practical solutions.
- Identify potential problems before they impact quality, production schedules, or finished products.
- Make adjustments and decisions based on the specific requirements of custom projects.
- Work efficiently and independently while maintaining consistently high-quality workmanship.
- Collaborate with the production team, designers, and management to ensure project requirements are met.
- Meet production schedules and project deadlines without compromising quality.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Learn and follow Cedar Ridge Designs' specific manufacturing processes, equipment procedures, and quality standards.
- Utilize the company ERP system to manage job information, track materials, and complete required documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in custom cabinetry, millwork, woodworking, or a closely related field preferred.
- Strong seasoned woodworking skills — this is not an entry-level position.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to efficiently produce high-quality custom components.
- Advanced knowledge of woodworking machinery and safe equipment operation.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong knowledge of solid wood, veneers, particle core, MDF core, and MDF materials.
- Experience selecting and grading lumber for colour, grain, and consistency.
- Strong understanding of woodworking joinery, fabrication techniques, and construction methods.
- Knowledge of materials and preparation requirements for lacquer finishing is an asset.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Physically capable of performing manual work and operating machinery in a custom woodworking shop.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and manage deadlines.
- Reliable, professional, and accountable with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
