Position Summary
The Youth Worker Group/Drop-in Programs ensures the safe and effective delivery of youth programming, overseeing planning, implementation, risk management and supervision and support of youth participants. The Youth Worker will provide afternoon and evening Group/Drop-in Programming in Sooke and Central Saanich expanding to other Club sites as the program grows. Programming will utilize BGC Canada Program Resources in the planning of intentional activities. Rooted in a trauma-informed approach, this role prioritizes participant safety, empowerment and skill development while supporting child/youth health promotion, relationship-building, and behavior management. The Youth Worker demonstrates intentional practice with a results-driven focus, leading by example and embodying the Agency’s Core Values and Code of Ethics in all decision-making and professional behavior
Position Details
Wage: $23/hour
Project Length: Nov 15, 2026 (End date of the term position is tentative dependent on the return of the incumbent to the position)
Hours: 30 hours/week
Shift: Mon to Wed 12:309m - 6:00pm, Thursday & Friday 3:30pm – 9:00pm (Occasional weekend work may be required)
Location: Various across Greater Victoria including regularly in Sooke and Central Saanich
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage youth in group and drop-in activities, acting as a positive role model while fostering relationship development and pro-social behaviors.
- Plan, organize, and lead weekly youth programs, special events, and life skills workshops tailored to participants' interests and developmental needs.
- Partner with youth to co-design program activities (e.g., games, art, movie nights) to promote participant leadership, ownership, and active involvement.
- Apply a youth-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach that honors diverse identities, lived experiences, and individual needs.
- Utilize positive behavior support, non-violent crisis intervention, and emotional regulation strategies to maintain safe, structured, and supportive environments.
- Plan weekly menus, prepare nutritious meals/snacks, educate youth on healthy choices, and safely transport participants to off-site activities as needed.
- Gather participant data, attendance, survey feedback, success stories, and case notes to fulfill monthly, quarterly, and grant reporting requirements.
- Develop and distribute promotional schedules, monthly/quarterly calendars, and newsletters using organizational tools and team input.
- Monitor physical and emotional safety, enforce professional boundaries, apply harm-reduction strategies, and perform suicide risk assessments and safety planning when necessary.
- Identify potential hazards or crisis situations, apply de-escalation techniques, and promptly report critical incidents according to agency protocols.
- Ensure all daily operations and service delivery align with agency policies, safety standards, licensing regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Handle basic facility upkeep, report hazard repairs, manage program inventory, compile purchasing lists, and process expense receipts.
- Assist with registration and maintain clear, professional communication with guardians, families, and referring authorities.
- Actively participate in team meetings, regular supervision, and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure consistent program delivery and professional growth.
- Model core agency values, steward external stakeholder relationships, and serve as a brand champion during community events and committees.

Qualifications
- Relevant post-secondary diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Recreation, Education or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Reliable personal vehicle and clean driver’s abstract
- Current Standard First Aid/CPR C certification
- Knowledge of mental health and substance use
- Experience developing and implementing activity-based programs
- 1-year experience working with 10 – 18-year-old youth
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate stages of child development in program/service delivery
- Demonstrated preventative approach to behavioural management
- Experience with trauma informed practice
- Class 5 Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle
- Effective verbal, written and presentation/group facilitation skills
- Effective organizational skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings
