About the Role
Cambrian Excavators Ltd. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Coordinator to support our underground infrastructure and roadworks construction operations.
The Safety Coordinator will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field crews to ensure all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with applicable safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate compliance by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing the Company’s Health & Safety Program and industry best practices from applicable legislation across multiple job sites
- Conduct regular inspections, hazard assessments, and audits for underground utility and road construction activities
- Ensure compliance with all occupational health and safety legislation and company policies
- Lead orientations, ongoing safety training and safety meetings as necessary
- Monitor high-risk activities including trenching/excavation, hoisting and rigging activities, confined spaces, shoring, traffic control, and heavy equipment operations
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and safety concerns; develop corrective and preventative actions
- Conduct safety and health investigations and liaise with Workers' Compensation Board of Manitoba regarding reporting incidents, supporting injured workers and managing return-to-work coordination
- Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation
- Update records as necessary
- Coordinate emergency response planning and drills
- Act as a resource to supervisors and workers on safe work practices and procedures
- Updating and maintaining our safety management software program
- Promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement mindset across all crews by setting a good example
- Conduct summary reports
- Develop project specific documents in coordination with Project Managers
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or certification in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline of study
- 3–5+ years of safety experience in heavy civil construction (underground infrastructure or roadworks preferred)
- Strong knowledge of excavation safety, trenching regulations, and underground utility construction practices
- Experience working in field-based environments alongside construction crews
- Valid First Aid/CPR certification (required)
- Additional certifications/designations such as COR, NCSO, CRSP, CRST or equivalent are considered an asset
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between job sites
