Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The Part-Time Academic will teach in-person Lectures for POLS 3000 Politics of Food and Agriculture in the Fall Semester (September – December) 2026. The lectures are currently scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 08:35am to 09:55am. The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the lectures, including test preparation, evaluation, and teaching platform administration (currently Brightspace), as well as routine office hours. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.
This course examines global governance, the role of corporations, and social movements in shaping food and agriculture. Students will examine food and agriculture in Canada through the public policy lens. This will empower critical thinking in the context of change in a global environment. Specific themes to be covered include governance and global food corporations, agricultural trade liberalization, international agricultural assistance, the global agro-chemical industry, and agricultural biotechnology, agrarian movements in the Global South, and the net zero transition in agriculture. Students will be encouraged to apply public policy frames to applied cases in food and agriculture.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
- At least one year of experience teaching in a post-secondary educational institution.
- Excellent oral and written communication is required, as well as collegiality, organization and interpersonal skills.
- A Ph.D in Political Science or related discipline is required OR a Masters degree in Political Science or related discipline with two years teaching experience is required. Applicants with a Ph.D will be given preference.
- Knowledge of Canadian Food and Agriculture issues is required.
Salary Range/Pay Rate
