We are looking for a creative, energetic, and engaging Acting Executive Director to provide leadership within a Child Care Centre located in Toronto, South of Victoria Park Avenue and York Mills Road inside a TDSB school.
The Centre's Acting Director is responsible for overseeing and leading the work of all staff at the Centre. This involves administration, financial and supervising all staff and activities within the Centre to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of children.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of a licensed non profit centre for up to 36 children, including infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Provide leadership, supervision, and support to a team of up to 7 full-time and 5 part-time educators to ensure high-quality care, compliance, and a positive learning environment.

- Contract End Date: April 9, 2027 (10 months MATERNITY LEAVE CONTRACT POSITION 37.5 hours weekly on a salary biweekly)
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain high quality play-based program and establish professional, positive relationships with families, staff and all relevant stakeholders
- Manages the resolution of service delivery issues, including the reporting/ follow up of Centre based serious occurrences as outlined by CCEYA legislation
- Supervise, motivate and train staff, promote effective teamwork, high standard of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others
- Supervises the day-to-day operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning the reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation, personal day, and overtime requests
- Monitors and evaluates staff performance, oversees attendance management, participate in collective bargaining, attend grievances, and recommend disciplinary action when necessary
- Provide input into and administer assigned budget, making certain that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitation.
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children and staff in the Centre and that the Centre is compliant with all legislation, policies and procedures
- Plans and implements parent/ family involvement and engagement strategies
- Works with external agencies, services and resources including local community agencies working with the child and family sector to provide integrated seamless programs
- Participate and make decisions in regards to supervising, hiring and facilitating staff development
- Ensure compliance of all legislative CCEYA requirements for the Centre.
Qualifications, required skills and credentials:
· Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators; Eligibility for approval as a Child Care Centre Supervisor under the CCEYA Standards; have the ability to obtain a clear Criminal Reference Check, meet health requirements , have CPR and First Aid Certification, and provide at least three employment related references.
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Supervisory role in a licensed child care centre preferably in a TDSB school setting; delivering high quality early learning and child care programs and leading and implementing a play based program model in a licensed setting.
· Experience in oversight of Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers programs, supervising staff, as well as leading, coaching, motivating, and developing teams.
· Knowledge of TCS service agreement and CWELCC agreement administration and interpretation, labour relations principles and practices, and relevant employment legislation, including human rights and occupational health and safety.
· Extensive knowledge of child development, current thinking and initiatives related to the early learning and child care field.
· In depth and working knowledge of government legislation relating to child care including but not limited to the CCEYA, Toronto Operating Criteria, Children’s Services, Human Rights Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
· Experience in child care centre operations and administration including but not limited to policy and procedure writing and review, preparing, administering and maintaining a budget, payroll processing, staff scheduling, food and supplies ordering.
· Excellent relationship management and communication skills with the ability to interface with many diverse stakeholders and ability to deal with conflict
· Must be responsive to family and staff needs; have strong problem-solving skills; ability to evaluate and ensure that staff develop a program that is consistent with the Centre’s philosophy.
· Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new programs, if required.
Expected physical demands: standing, sitting for extended periods, climbing stairs, lifting, bending, twisting, and working in varied weather conditions indoors and outdoors.
