Summary
The Materials Manager is responsible for managing the procurement of materials, components, supplies, and services required to support efficient manufacturing operations in a lean production environment. Reporting directly to the Controller this role works cross-functionally with Project Management, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Shipping, and Administration to ensure timely availability of materials, inventory accuracy, and cost-effective purchasing practices.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with strong analytical and communication skills and experience coordinating purchasing activities in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities
- Source, negotiate, and purchase raw materials, components, consumables, and services required for manufacturing and operational needs.
- Maintain supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and reliable delivery performance.
- Work closely with Project Managers to understand project timelines and material requirements.
- Coordinate procurement activities to ensure all required components are available to meet production and project deadlines.
- Monitor supply chain risks and proactively address material shortages or delays.
- Partner with the Quality Department to ensure incoming materials and components meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Assist the Maintenance Department with sourcing and purchasing equipment, spare parts, tools, and maintenance-related supplies.
- Collaborate with the Shipping Department to track purchased items through the manufacturing process.
- Work with administration to ensure the accurate recording of inventory transactions within the ERP
- Maintain accurate records of receipts, transfers, returns, and adjustments.
- Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle counts, including month-end inventory verification.
- Work with the Administration Department to investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
Qualifications
- Postsecondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or related field preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under deadlines
- Minimum 3–5 years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working within a lean manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of inventory control systems and ERP/MRP software.
- Strong understanding of supply chain processes and purchasing best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Pay: $65,100.01-$75,000.00 per year
