About the Role
Global Bricks is seeking an experienced Real Estate Accountant to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with direct experience working in a real estate brokerage who understands the financial, regulatory, and trust accounting requirements of the Ontario real estate industry.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, managing brokerage accounting functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the daily financial operations of the brokerage.
Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day accounting functions for the brokerage.
- Maintain and reconcile brokerage trust accounts in accordance with RECO regulations.
- Prepare and process commissions, commission disbursements, and agent payouts.
- Record and reconcile deposits, closings, and transaction-related financial activities.
- Perform monthly bank, trust, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Process payroll and maintain payroll records.
- Prepare HST filings and assist with corporate tax preparation.
- Work closely with management, brokers, and external accountants.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and brokerage regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of accounting experience in a real estate brokerage is required.
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of real estate trust accounting and brokerage financial operations.
- Experience with BrokerBay, Lone Wolf (formerly Transactions/Back Office), Realm, WebForms, or other real estate brokerage software is considered a strong asset.
- Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks, Sage, or similar accounting software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation or working toward CPA is an asset.
- Experience preparing year-end financial packages.
- Knowledge of RECO compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting high-volume real estate transactions.
