Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our community health team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in promoting health, preventing disease, and improving the well-being of diverse populations. The Public Health Nurse will work collaboratively with healthcare providers, community organizations, and local agencies to address public health needs and implement effective programs. Responsibilities
- Provide immunization services in community, school, workplace, and outreach settings.
- Assess immunization status and administer vaccines in accordance with provincial/territorial immunization schedules and public health standards.
- Maintain vaccine cold chain, inventory management, and accurate immunization documentation.
- Participate in baby clinics and child health clinics, providing growth and development monitoring, health assessments, immunizations, and parent education.
- Support pre-natal and post-natal (postpartum) care, including health education, breastfeeding support, newborn assessments, and referrals as needed.
- Conduct communicable disease case and contact management, including surveillance, reporting, follow-up, and education.
- Participate in outbreak investigations and response activities, including case management, contact tracing, infection prevention and control recommendations, and outbreak monitoring.
- Provide tuberculosis (TB) services, including risk assessment, case management, contact investigations, client education, and coordination of care with healthcare providers.
- Deliver sexual health and STBBI services, including risk assessment, counseling, testing coordination, partner notification, treatment follow-up, and health promotion.
- Provide culturally safe, trauma-informed, and client-centered care to diverse populations.
- Collaborate with physicians, infection prevention and control professionals, laboratories, schools, community agencies, and other healthcare partners.
- Maintain accurate documentation using electronic health records and public health information systems.
- Participate in emergency preparedness, vaccination campaigns, and other public health initiatives as required.
Experience
- Valid nursing license (RN) in Newfoundland
- Prior experience in public health nursing or community health settings is preferred.
- Supervising experience is highly desirable, demonstrating leadership capabilities.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of public health principles, epidemiology, and healthcare regulations.
