Lotus Group is excited to partner with our client to identify an experienced CNC Lead Lathe Machinist to join their growing machine shop team in Edmonton, AB.
Our client is a well-established and growing precision machining and manufacturing company specializing in the production of complex, tight-tolerance components for industrial and OEM clients. With a strong reputation in the market and a long-tenured team, the organization is entering a new phase of growth. Plans are underway to expand both their facility and production capabilities, including additional equipment and enhanced service offerings.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled machinist who can confidently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and oversee CNC lathe production while supporting shop efficiency, quality standards, and team development. The ideal candidate is a strong problem-solver with leadership experience who takes pride in precision work, mentoring others, and maintaining production flow.
Role Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes for production and custom machining
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications
- Program/edit at the machine and optimize tooling paths as required
- Provide hands-on guidance, troubleshooting, and technical support for machining issues and make necessary adjustments
- Oversee daily lathe operations to ensure production targets are met
- Train, mentor, and support a team of machinists and operators
- Conduct first-off inspections and verify dimensional accuracy
- Ensure compliance with quality control procedures and tolerances
- Coordinate workflow with production, quality control, and management
- Monitor tooling requirements and machine maintenance needs
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
- Assist in process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime
- Support the development of more standardized processes and practices
- Foster a collaborative environment focused on accountability and continuous improvement
- Adapt team structure and workflows to support additional equipment and production demands
Role Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years CNC lathe machining experience within job shop/ custom machining environments
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a machine shop preferred
- Proficient in Mastercam and G-code/M code
- Ability to work a Monday-Friday day shift and overtime as required
- Journeyman Machinist ticket (Red Seal) is an asset
- Strong knowledge of CNC lathe setup, tooling, and operation
- Experience with programming/editing CNC controls
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints
- Strong understanding of precision measuring instruments
- Experience working to tight tolerances
- Familiarity with quality systems and inspection documentation preferred
- Forklift and overhead crane experience considered an asset
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of shop safety practices
- Reliable, self-motivated, and team-oriented
