Working in collaboration with Store Management and fellow colleagues, the Propane/Solar Shop Attendant is primarily responsible for assisting with the day-to-day retail shop operational duties/tasks including but not limited to sales of propane fuel, cylinders, propane/solar accessories and tank recertification, and off-grid equipment to meet the needs of retail customers. In addition to retail duties, the Propane/Solar Shop Attendant may be expected to assist as a laborer in the field on solar installations, only as required.
This role would be an ideal entry-level position for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the gas, HVAC or solar industries. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to increase industry-specific knowledge and participate in a variety of hands-on experiences.
General Duties:
- Responsible for safely and efficiently dispensing propane fuel to fill cylinders, tanks and recreational vehicles (RVs), and for assisting customers to transport their tanks to and from their vehicles.
- Assists the Propane/Solar Shop Technician with daily inventory and stock keeping tasks including physical inventory counts and stocking of newly received shipments.
- Ensures that safety procedures including appropriate tools/equipment, PPE and precautions are always followed when working with propane filling equipment, pressurized means of containment or gaseous fuels.
- Responsible for providing exceptional customer service in-person and via the business’ communication channels (i.e., telephone, e-mail etc.)
- Responsible for accurately processing customer sales transactions in the point-of-sale (POS) terminal, including entering items for sale, accepting payment and providing proof-of purchase to customer.
- Responsible for daily housekeeping/ maintenance of the shop facilities and grounds including the storefront, parking area and propane compound. Responsible for always maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
- Responsible for assisting Solar Technicians in the field as required.
- Operates in a professional, safe and responsible manner at all times, ensuring adherence to legal compliance and company policy.
- Responsible for following company policies in relation to daily usage of company systems, including time tracking and e-mails.
- Works with direct manager to develop and improve industry skills through on-the-job training and application.
Education or Work Experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift from 5-175lb.
- Must be willing to work in a variety of weather and temperature situations.
