As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a highly motivated Estimator to join our team. This individual will play a critical role in evaluating customer requirements, developing accurate cost estimates, and preparing competitive quotations for high-value manufacturing projects.

Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for engineering, design, machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and testing of our systems. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, production, purchasing, quality, and project engineers to ensure estimates accurately reflect manufacturing methods, material costs, labour, subcontracting, and project risks.
Key Responsibilities
Working with current Estimator team developing proposals
Estimating & Proposal Development
Review customer RFQs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
Develop detailed cost estimates for precision machining, fabrication, welding, and engineered systems.
Estimate labour hours, machine time, materials, tooling, outside processing, inspection, testing, packaging, and shipping.
Prepare accurate quotations and pricing summaries.
Ensure quotations align with customer requirements and company objectives.
Participate in proposal reviews and bid strategy meetings.
Manufacturing Cost Analysis
Determine manufacturing methods and routing.
Evaluate make-versus-buy opportunities.
Identify production risks and cost-saving opportunities.
Develop costing models using standard labour rates and overhead.
Analyze historical project costs to improve estimating accuracy.
Support continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Supplier & Purchasing Support
Obtain quotations from material suppliers and subcontractors.
Evaluate supplier pricing, lead times, and capabilities.
Coordinate outsourced processes such as:
Heat treating
Coatings
Non-Destructive Examination (NDE)
Special machining
Material testing
Calibration services
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Engineering to clarify technical requirements.
Collaborate with Production to validate manufacturing assumptions.
Support Sales during customer meetings and proposal discussions.
Coordinate with Quality to identify inspection and certification requirements.
Assist Project Engineers during project handoff following award.
Continuous Improvement
Maintain estimating databases and costing templates.
Track estimate accuracy versus actual project costs.
Recommend improvements to estimating methods and cost models.
Support implementation of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in manufacturing, fabrication, machining, or heavy industrial projects.
Strong understanding of machining, welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
