The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.
We are recruiting a part-time Clinical Counsellor for a short-term contract until April 30, 2027. The Clinical Counsellor provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive counselling services to clients experiencing mental health challenges, family conflict, trauma, intimate partner violence, and substance use. This role includes assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic intervention, consultation, and collaboration with community partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interview clients to gather case history information.
- Conduct comprehensive client assessments, including case history, emotional, cognitive, and behavioural needs.
- Identify goals of service and develop individualized therapeutic plans.
- Provide individual and group counselling using evidence-based modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational enhancement therapy, family systems therapy, solution-focused therapy).
- Offer follow-up support and monitor client progress post-treatment.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community resources and provide appropriate referrals.
- Consult and collaborate with social workers, probation officers, other EFry staff, and community professionals.
- Facilitate support groups for clients and/or families.
- Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records and reports.
- Document all therapeutic interactions and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registration with a regulatory or professional organization (e.g. BCACC, BCCSW).
- Master’s Degree in related discipline such as clinical counselling, clinical psychology, or clinical social work.
- Two (2) years recent related experience in substance use and mental health setting, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
- Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector or health sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community support services systems is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant formal counselling and assessment techniques.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- The ability to provide counselling in a language, in addition to English, is an advantage.
MANDATORY JOB REIREMENTS:
- Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
- Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination status.
- Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
- Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
