Position Overview
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator works to implement strategies consistent with the Library’s strategic direction. This position is also responsible for planning, implementing, measuring and reporting on projects that include: media relations, special events, advertising, displays, social media, brand development, community partnerships, and publications.
Plans and implements special events for the Library and works with the system and marketing unit to support effective communication around these events. Represents the department on internal and external committees as required.
In the absence of the Director, oversees general operations in the department. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Key Duties
1. Planning: Implements corporate marketing initiatives, monitors and evaluates these plans, and makes corrective adjustments as required. Prepares budget recommendations for marketing initiatives and special events and effectively utilizes the budget allocated. Plans and implements special events for the Library and works with the system and marketing unit to support effective communication around these events.
2. Collateral Development: Plans, coordinates, provides direction, for the development and production of SPL’s Program Guide. Negotiates and manages production and external distribution contracts related to the Program Guide. Also develops brochures and other communications materials.
3. Strategy & Partnerships: Develops promotional plans and strategies to promote SPL’s collections, services & programs. Develops promotional partnerships in the community. Works collaborate with Public Service employees in supporting and fulfilling community partnership commitments.
4. Advertising: Coordinates the development, production and placement of print & online advertising, including Google ad words, mini-billboards and in-branch promotions. Manages SPL’s digital signage program.
5. Copywriting: Research, write, edit and coordinate content for print and online media, such as newsletters, annual reports, brochures, advertising, and media releases. Proofs and edits copy to clarify meaning, grammar, accuracy, consistency and adherence to corporate voice, brand and style standards.
6. Website & Social Media: Prepares posts and content updates for SPL’s social media and website.
Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree in Commerce, majoring in marketing or communications.
- Minimum of four years of work experience in marketing and communications.
- Ability to travel independently to and between SPL activities and locations as needed.
