Position Overview:
SCV Waste Solutions is seeking a reliable and experienced Class 1 Driver to join our growing team based out of West Kelowna, BC. This position plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of SCV Waste Solutions’ transfer station and transport activities. The Class 1 Driver will be responsible for safely operating transport trucks and walking floor trailers to haul garbage, green waste, and other materials between customer sites, the transfer station, and designated disposal facilities such as the Glenmore Landfill.
In addition to transport duties, this role is heavily involved in maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and efficient flow of materials at the transfer station. This includes assisting with loading operations using a loader/skid steer (experience an asset, with training provided as needed), ensuring materials are properly managed, and helping keep the site safe, clean, and operational throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a transport truck to deliver, pick up, and haul material in highway, rural, and city driving conditions
- Deliver and/or pick up materials to and from customers in an efficient and effective manner
- Load, secure, and transport various types of materials safely
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and roadworthiness
- Maintain daily logs and complete required documentation in compliance with regulations
- Perform regular trip inspections on equipment operated and loaded
- Comply with all company safe work practices and procedures at all times
- Operate equipment responsibly to prevent damage to equipment, property, and surrounding structures, ensuring safety of self and others
- Maintain assigned equipment and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and other drivers using phone and radio systems
- Utilize a computer tablet to access route assignments and complete documentation
- Support transfer station operations by maintaining cleanliness, organization, and efficient material flow
- Operate loader/skid steer (training available; prior experience an asset)
- Work safely and professionally when interacting with the public and customers
- Work independently while contributing as part of a team environment
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience operating a transport truck.
- Valid British Columbia Class 1 Driver’s License (minimum requirement) with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, drivers’ hours, and occupational health & safety requirements.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically capable of performing job duties including lifting up to 23 kg (50 lbs), as well as pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and stretching.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and safely operate heavy vehicles.
- Ability to stand and walk on varied terrain as required.
- Experience operating manual transmission heavy trucks preferred.
- Competence or willingness to learn operation of loader/skid steer equipment.
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Safety-focused mindset with strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Comfortable interacting with the public in a professional manner.
- Weekend availability preferred.
- Schedule: Friday–Wednesday every other week (every second weekend off).
- Basic mechanical aptitude considered an asset.
