Job Overview
Ashton College is seeking an Alumni Engagement and Communications Assistant to help establish the foundation for an Ashton College alumni network. The successful candidate will support identify and contact alumni, update alumni records, build communication channels, support alumni outreach campaigns, and assist in creating the early structure for an Ashton College Alumni Association including two events. The goal is to create a functioning alumni contact system and begin regular alumni engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Contact former students and graduates by email, phone, LinkedIn, and other approved channels.
- Help build and clean an alumni contact database.
- Draft alumni emails, e-newsletters, short updates, and social media posts.
- Assist in setting up alumni communication channels, including LinkedIn groups, social media pages, email lists, or newsletter tools.
- Collect alumni stories, testimonials, career updates, and success profiles.
- Help segment alumni by program, graduation year, location, and professional field.
- Support the launch of an Ashton College Alumni Association or alumni network.
- Plan and execute at least two alumni events.
- Prepare basic reports on outreach activity, responses, updated contacts, and engagement levels.
- Recommend simple ways to keep alumni connected to Ashton College.
- Coordinate with marketing, admissions, student services, and program staff where needed.
Deliverables by End of Term
- Updated alumni contact database.
- At least one active alumni communication channel.
- Draft alumni welcome message and outreach campaign.
- First alumni e-newsletter or update.
- List of engaged alumni willing to stay connected.
- Basic alumni communications calendar.
- Recommendation report for next steps in building the alumni association.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, education, or a related field.
- Strong written English.
- Comfortable contacting people professionally by email, phone, and LinkedIn.
- Organized and able to maintain accurate records.
- Basic knowledge of social media and email communication tools.
- Able to work independently after direction is provided.
- Interest in education, student success, alumni relations, or community building.
Preferred
- Experience with Mailchimp or Constant Contact, Canva, LinkedIn, Excel, Google Sheets, or a CRM.
- Experience writing newsletters, social media posts, or student communication articles.
