As a Project Accountant you will be responsible for coordinating the accurate and timely entry and reporting of data in the company financial systems. This includes accounts receivable, accounts payable, subcontract management, payroll, equipment time entry, accounts payable and month end reporting. Interaction and communication with management and project teams are important to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of data.
· Supports the project management team in completing monthly cost and profitability reporting, including monthly accrual entry. Build strong relationships with and serve as a trusted advisor to our internal business partners including Project Managers and Coordinators
- Read and understand project related contracts and subcontractor documentation to ensure project set up procedures are aligned with contract terms and conditions.
- Tracks subcontractor commitments and enters progress payments including payment to the subcontractor; ensures compliance to contractual terms.
- Collect, reconcile, seek approval and process all project related subcontractor payments, general expenditures, internal hourly payroll costing allocations and all other financial transactions in a timely and accurate manner to meet all contract payment terms.
- Evaluate project setup and budget change documentation to ensure compliance with contractual requirements and internal controls.
- Maintain accurate and timely cash flow data, both current and forecasted as compared to projected cash flow assumed in financial model (as applicable to the project).
- Assist the Project Manager in preparing monthly reports for owner/consultant and internal reporting.
- Collaborate with PM and PC to recommend an appropriate work breakdown structure, issue accurate and contractually compliant and Proper invoices, and perform other functions as requested.
- Manage the closeout process for completed projects.
Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service and communication skills (written and oral) along with the ability to build and foster excellent working relationships. Build and maintain relationships with other Project Accountants and other project members, including Controller, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to ensure collaborative teamwork.
- Preferred Diploma or bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Business Administration. Working toward CPA an asset
· Construction background is desired and would be an asset.
· 2-5 years of relevant experience. General accounting knowledge obtained through experience and/or education.
· Proficiency in MS Office is a requirement.
· Experience with ERP systems preferred.
· Cost control/Project Control background also an asset.
