We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child Care Live-In Caregiver to provide attentive and nurturing care for children in a family setting. This role offers an opportunity to work closely with children, supporting their development and well-being while living on-site. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that promotes learning and growth.
Duties
Assist with daily routines, including dressing, feeding, and bathing children
Prepare nutritious meals and snacks tailored to children's dietary needs
Engage children in educational activities, play, and teaching to foster development
Perform light cleaning and organization of children’s areas to maintain a tidy environment
Support children with homework and learning activities
Mandatory Two-Person Physical Transfers: Must actively assist the primary family caregiver with complex, manual two-person physical lifting, positioning, and bed-to-wheelchair transfers for a non-ambulatory 12-year-old youth with severe GMFCS Level 5 Cerebral Palsy.
Spasticity and Contracture Management: Assist in maintaining daily physical therapy routines, stretching exercises, and precise positional changes to prevent skin breakdown, pressure sores, and severe muscle tightness.
Bilingual Communication for Safety: Must communicate flawlessly in Malayalam (spoken and receptive) during physical care routines. The child is completely non-verbal and her cognitive comprehension is calibrated entirely in Malayalam; she relies on this specific language for safety cues, emergency instructions, and emotional soothing during high-stress physical movements.
Sibling Support Layout: Provide secondary caregiving, basic supervision, and meal prep for minor siblings (ages 8 and 12) during specific daytime windows to ensure the household operates smoothly while the primary caregiver completes mandatory provincial employment and training pathways.
Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times within the home environment
Communicate effectively with parents regarding children's progress and daily activities
Experience
Prior experience working with children in a caregiving or teaching capacity is preferred
Experience working with individuals with disabilities is a plus
Skills in cooking and meal preparation for children are desirable
Background in caregiving, teaching, or early childhood development is beneficial
Ability to handle caregiving responsibilities with patience, compassion, and professionalism
Mandatory Assets:
Required Language Fluency: Fluency in Malayalam is a strict requirement for child safety and cognitive tracking.
Specialized Physical Capabilities: Must be capable of continuous physical stamina, including safe weight handling and cooperative heavy lifting as part of a two-person team.
Required Background Check: Must be willing to clear a British Columbia Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable children.
