Job Description
Kipling Group is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting, Multi-Family to lead and oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions for our multi-family residential portfolio. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective collaboration with internal stakeholders. The Director will lead, mentor, and develop a team while partnering closely with Operations, Finance, Tax, and Executive Leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Oversight
- Lead, manage, and develop the multi-family accounting team, ensuring high performance and adherence to best practices
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
- Act as a key accounting liaison to senior leadership and property operations
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting working papers
- Ensure timely and accurate bank reconciliations and balance sheet reviews
- Review and present monthly revenue and expense variance analyses in collaboration with Property Management
- Oversee cash flow analysis, distributions, and reporting to ownership
Budgeting & Forecasting
- · Lead the annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting process for the multi-family portfolio
- · Review assumptions, analyze variances, and provide financial insight to support operational decision-making
Tenant & Revenue Accounting
- Oversee rental revenue, recovery billings, and tenant account accuracy
- Resolve escalated tenant billing issues and disputes
- Ensure accurate calculation and review of percentage rent (where applicable) and other recoveries
Systems & Process Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes, systems, and reporting tools
- Act as a subject matter expert for Yardi and related financial systems
- Partner with Finance and IT on system enhancements and implementations
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Manage all internal and external client deadlines and client Accounting relationships
- Work closely with Property Operations, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Tax, Finance, and Legal teams
- Provide accounting guidance and support to operational teams as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate for this position will have the following background:
- CPA designation required (CPA, CA, or CGA)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in multi-family residential or real estate/property management accounting
- Proven people leadership and team management experience
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting expertise
- Advanced knowledge of Yardi
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
