Survey Assistant
Role Summary
We’re looking to add seasonal and permanent Survey Assistants to our team in Grande Prairie! The Survey Assistant will work directly with the Party Chief to execute day-to-day field responsibilities associated with the collection of field data such as digging pins, planting marker posts or iron bars, and flagging/staking boundaries, buried facilities, and other geographic interests. No experience is required for this position, but the ideal candidate will be an individual who has a strong willingness to learn, loves the outdoors and using their problem solving skills to resolve unique challenges arising in the field.

We now boast a broad foundation of expertise in a variety of inter-related disciplines. Including Legal & Construction Survey, Materials Testing, Municipal & Civil Engineering, Planning, Oil & Gas Engineering & Survey, Surface Land, Structural & Bridge Engineering, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, and Geotechnical & Environmental Engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Execute tasks as directed by the Party Chief to assist them in the accurate collection of field data to be interpreted by the Field Technician.
- Prepare the site by configuring survey equipment / control setup.
- Locate primary and secondary survey evidence.
- Digging pins, planting marker posts and iron bars, flagging/staking boundaries, buried facilities and other geographic interests.
- Responsible for the safe conduct of themselves by ensuring they are properly equipped with all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and that is in acceptable working condition in compliance with the BASE Health & Safety Standards.
- Actively engage in the safe conduct of themselves and others on site by identifying hazards or potential unsafe working conditions to the Party Chief.
- Following safe work practices as dictated by the BASE Health & Safety Standards.
- Professionally communicate with the Party Chief and other contractors on site.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and maintenance (where applicable) of truck, equipment, and work sites.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with no restrictions.
- Has or willing to obtain: First Aid - Level C, WHMIS with GHS, PST, H2S, CST and/or PST, Ground Disturbance Training, and UTV (SxS), ATC, Snowmobile Operator's Course.
- No experience required, however preference will be given to those with previous survey or Oil & Gas experience.
- Proficient in general computer use and Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Able to use basic tools such as a tape measure, shovel, sledgehammer, etc.
- Able to lift and carry 30lbs or more over a distance.
- Able to work safely on rugged or steep terrain.
- Able to travel and work a flexible/rotating schedule to support field and construction projects (includes ability to work weekends).

Full time permanent & seasonal positions.
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour, can be negotiated based on experience

Supplemental pay types:

Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 50.0 per week
