We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our leadership team and oversee the financial health of our projects and corporate operations.
The Role
As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, with a heavy emphasis on project-based accounting and financial reporting. You will act as a key financial advisor to project managers and senior leadership, ensuring that every project is tracked accurately from groundbreaking to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Accounting & WIP: Manage monthly Work-In-Progress (WIP) reporting, including revenue recognition, cost-to-complete analysis, and margin variance reporting.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Full Cycle Accounting: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, ensuring all entries are coded correctly to specific job costs.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual corporate budgets and project-specific cash flow forecasts.
- Compliance: Manage holdbacks, statutory declarations, and WCB compliance. Ensure all provincial and federal tax filings (GST, corporate tax) are handled appropriately.
- Audit Support: Coordinate year-end audit files and act as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement efficiencies within our accounting software and internal control systems.
Qualifications
- Professional Designation: CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is not required but encouraged.
- Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the construction or real estate development industry.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and experience with construction-specific ERP software (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Timberline, Sage 300, etc.).
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of construction-specific accounting principles, including holdbacks, progress billings, and job costing.

- Communication: Strong ability to explain financial data to non-financial stakeholders, such as Project Superintendents and Site Leads.
