Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing a portfolio of client engagements, preparing accounting and tax-related work, communicating directly with clients, and supporting business development initiatives.
The successful candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
This position offers flexibility and the opportunity to increase hours as the client portfolio grows.
Duties
- Manage a portfolio of small and medium-sized business clients
- Perform full-cycle accounting and review accounting records
- Prepare and review working papers and financial statements
- Prepare corporate tax returns (T2)
- Assist with preparation of trust tax returns (T3)
- Prepare GST/HST and other compliance filings
- Review bookkeeping files and ensure accuracy and completeness
- Assist clients with accounting and tax-related matters
- Research accounting and tax issues and provide practical solutions
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and prospective clients
- Communicate directly with business owners and provide professional accounting support
- Identify opportunities to provide additional accounting, tax, and advisory services
- Participate in networking events and professional community activities
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and support client retention
- Contribute to business growth through professional relationship building
- Manage deadlines and engagement workflow independently
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality, and client service
- Support improvements to accounting processes and workflows
- Collaborate with leadership on client engagements and accounting matters
Requirements
- CPA designation
- Minimum 3 years of Canadian accounting experience
- Experience working with multiple clients or in an accounting firm environment preferred
- Experience preparing corporate tax returns (T2)
- Knowledge or experience with trust tax returns (T3) is a strong asset
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles and tax compliance requirements
- Experience independently managing client files
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently
Technical Skills
- QuickBooks Online experience required
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with TaxPrep, CaseWare, CCH, or similar software is an asset
- Familiarity with CRA online systems is an asset
Compensation
$39,000–$78,000 per year
