Our client is a leader in the manufacturing and servicing of shipboard mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic control systems. They are currently seeking a skilled and versatile technician to support both in-house assembly and on-board ship service work.
This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoys hands-on work in a dynamic environment—both in the shop and in the field.
Key Responsibilities
In-Shop Manufacturing, Assembly & Testing
- Assemble, test, and calibrate mechanical and pneumatic components
- Perform component overhauls including disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, and testing
- Follow established assembly procedures, specifications, and technical service procedures (TSPs)
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, including inspection and service reports
- Identify and recommend improvements or corrections to existing procedures and documentation
- Collaborate with purchasing and machine shop teams to maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Assist in estimating repair and refit projects by providing labour and parts input
Field Service (On-Board Ships)
- Perform mechanical installation and servicing of shipboard equipment
- Install and connect piping, tubing (copper, stainless steel), and hose systems
- Conduct testing, setup, and troubleshooting of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Document work performed, including capturing high-quality images when required
Qualifications & Experience
- Background in one or more of the following:
- Millwright
- Mechanic
- Metal fabrication and assembly
- HVAC repair and overhaul
- Pipefitting (including precision tube bending)
- Mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic assembly and troubleshooting
- Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and technical diagrams
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems and control logic
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Own CSA-approved safety footwear (in good condition)
- Own standard mechanic’s hand tools (specialized tools provided)
- Basic computer skills (email, document handling, scanning, filing)
- Access to a phone or camera capable of capturing and sharing high-quality images
