Responsibilities
- Operate skid steers, mini excavators, and other compact equipment safely and efficiently on a variety of construction and civil sites
- Perform tasks such as excavation, grading, backfilling, trenching, material handling, and site cleanup
- Complete daily pre-operation equipment inspections and report any defects or maintenance needs
- Work from grade stakes, plans, and instructions from the site supervisor to achieve required elevations and tolerances
- Locate and work safely around underground utilities and overhead hazards, following all locate and ground-disturbance procedures
- Assist ground crews with manual labour, rigging, and general site duties as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area
- Complete required safety documentation (FLHAs, daily logs, equipment checklists) accurately and on time
- Follow all company safety policies, OH&S regulations, and site-specific safe work procedures
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, co-workers, and subcontractors to coordinate work and avoid hazards
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating skid steers, mini excavators, and similar compact equipment
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices and ground-disturbance procedures
- Ability to read grade stakes and follow site plans
- [Class 1/3 licence — if hauling equipment is required]
- Relevant safety tickets an asset (e.g., Confined Space, Fall Protection, Ground Disturbance, First Aid)
- Able to perform physical labour including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
