The right person will bring strong construction knowledge, clear leadership, steady communication, and a commitment to delivering quality work in a way that reflects Dockside’s values.
The Role
This is a role for someone who understands residential construction and can manage multiple active projects at once.
You will manage both new construction and renovation projects, including:
- Custom new homes
- Occasional spec homes
- Larger residential renovations
- Backyard suites
Depending on size and complexity, this role involves managing 5–10 active jobs. Your time will shift depending on the stage of each project. You will need to be comfortable moving between site visits, client communication, trade coordination, schedule management, pre-construction review, and internal planning. Our projects are primarily located throughout HRM, with occasional work in nearby communities when the project is the right fit.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Manager is responsible for helping set projects up properly before they begin, then managing them through construction to completion. Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing drawings, scopes of work, estimates, budgets, schedules, site conditions, trade requirements, and constructability concerns before contract signing
- Receiving and understanding the signed contract, plans, specifications, estimate, scope of work, and project details
- Identifying gaps between drawings, budgets, site conditions, and client expectations
- Becoming the primary Dockside contact for the client after contract signing
- Keeping clients informed, answering questions, managing expectations, and communicating clearly about scope, schedule, selections, progress, and changes
- Coordinating trades, suppliers, materials, inspections, client decisions, site activity, and schedule
- Staying ahead of material needs, labour needs, trade scheduling, and possible project bottlenecks
- Managing client-driven change orders by clarifying the request, coordinating pricing, communicating cost and schedule impact, documenting approval, and ensuring the change is communicated properly
- Working closely with Dockside’s Team Production Manager to coordinate internal field labour, site priorities, technical details, and schedule requirements
- Providing project-level site oversight and technical input
- Supporting safety, quality, cleanliness, professionalism, and strong jobsite standards
- Using Dockside’s systems consistently to protect communication, schedule, scope, budget, and accountability

Required Demonstrable Experience
- 5–10 years of residential construction experience in a leadership role
- Experience with custom homes, larger renovations, backyard suites, or comparable residential projects
- Strong communication skills with clients, trades, suppliers, and internal teams
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Management of several active projects at once
Technology and Credentials
Dockside uses JobTread construction management software, along with Google Workspace and DEXT.
You must be comfortable learning and consistently using software to manage schedules, documentation, communication, change orders, project details, and accountability.
Formal designations are considered assets, but they are not the main requirement. Relevant credentials may include Red Seal Carpenter, CET, CAT, P.Eng., or other construction, engineering, or technical designations.
Proven experience, judgment, leadership, communication, and a strong residential construction track record matter more than a specific designation.
Compensation and Benefits Include
- Salary range of $70,000–$95,000, depending on experience and what you bring to the table
