Our client is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support the financial management and reporting of a portfolio of large-scale real estate development projects. Working closely with project teams, lenders, consultants, and leadership, this role will be responsible for maintaining financial accuracy, supporting construction financing activities, and providing meaningful project-level reporting throughout the development lifecycle.
- Prepare and maintain monthly project financial reports, including job cost reporting, budget-to-actual analysis, and variance tracking.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures, identifying potential issues and recommending adjustments as required.
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations, HST reconciliations, and ensure compliance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate construction financing activities by working with lenders, project monitors, and cost consultants to support timely funding draws.
- Track project cash flow requirements, working capital balances, and funding schedules.
- Prepare capital call packages and supporting documentation for investors and project partners.
- Review accounts payable transactions, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Validate construction progress draw packages and related statutory documentation prior to submission.
- Partner with project managers and operational teams to provide financial insights, cost tracking, and ad hoc reporting.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to financial processes, internal controls, reporting efficiency, and system enhancements.
- Assist with year-end reporting requirements, including preparation of audit schedules, tax support files, and information requested by external advisors.
- Support project close-out activities, including reconciliation of proceeds, review of closing documentation, and preparation of final project reporting.
- Contribute to special projects and other accounting responsibilities as required.
- CPA designation or working towards (passed CFE) required.
- 4+ years of experience in project accounting, development accounting, construction accounting, or real estate finance.
- Strong knowledge of project cost accounting, budgeting, construction lending, and financial reporting.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across finance and operational teams.
