Helicopter Dynamic Component Shop Technician.
Many aviation jobs require strict licensing requirements. This role prioritizes Mechanical Aptitude and Precision over specific Aviation Credentials.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Reporting to the Component Shop Supervisor and/or Director of Maintenance (DoM), the ideal candidate won’t just be "turning wrenches." You’ll be responsible for the teardown, inspection, and precision reassembly of the most critical systems on an aircraft: the transmissions, gearboxes, and rotor heads. While an AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineer) license is not required for this specific role, we are looking for someone with advanced mechanical skills and a background in high-precision mechanical environments.
This is a perfect opportunity for a skilled technician to transition from the automotive or industrial sector into the aerospace industry. You will work in a clean, controlled environment on high-value components where quality and safety are the top priorities.
This is a full-time position based at the VIH Aerospace facility in Sidney, BC, Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carry Out: Repairs and overhaul to helicopter, dynamic components in accordance with company procedures and all regulatory requirements.
- Teardown & Evaluation: Disassemble complex dynamic components (main and tail rotor transmissions, gearboxes, and drive shafts).
- Precise Cleaning: Utilize specialized cleaning methods to prepare parts for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and inspection.
- Detailed Inspection: Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges) to verify that parts meet strict OEM tolerances.
- Assembly: Rebuild components using technical manuals, while paying strict attention to detail, ensuring proper shimming, backlash, and torque settings.
- Documentation: Maintain records of work performed to ensure full traceability and compliance with aviation safety standards, applicable VIHA-approved maintenance manuals, schedules, and specifications.
- Accept and Complete: Any other assigned work in a productive and safe manner.
REQUIREMENTS and QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Completion of secondary school and a certified trades training institution or equivalent.
- Mechanical Aptitude: You understand machinery. You understand gear mesh, bearing fit, and the importance of clean workspaces.
- Relevant Experience: Previous experience in a mechanical environment is required. Could include:
o Automotive or heavy equipment transmission shops,
o Engine rebuilding facilities, and
o Precision machining or millwright work.
- Tool Proficiency: Comfortable using precision measurement instruments and specialized shop equipment (presses, pullers, etc.).
- Ability: To read and understand technical manuals and instructions, able to use technical drawings, data and standards.
- Attitude: A high degree of integrity and the ability to follow technical manuals.
- Previous Training: Experience within Aviation will be given to candidates with helicopter component overhaul experience. Bell 206/212/412 helicopter experience is considered an asset.
- General: Valid driver’s license, excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, robust interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and professional maturity.
COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:
- VIH Aerospace provides a competitive industry standard for total compensation. The hourly salary for this position is $25.00 to $50.00, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include:
