The Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Dental Assisting Program Co-Leads (2 available positions) at the rank of Instructor within the School of Dental Hygiene. These are three-year, limited-term appointments expected to commence Fall 2026.
The Dental Assisting Program Co-Leads are full members of the School of Dental Hygiene. The normal workload distribution for these positions is approximately 80% teaching and course administration and 20% service. The primary role of the Program Co-Leads is to provide academic and operational leadership for the Dental Assisting program while contributing directly to teaching and clinical supervision.
The successful candidates will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of didactic, laboratory, and clinical components of the Dental Assisting program. This includes curriculum planning, implementation, review, and evaluation; oversight of course organization, and assessment; and supervision of students in clinical settings. The Program Co-Leads will monitor student progress, support program faculty, and communicate academic matters to the School Director and Faculty leadership as appropriate.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Program Co-Leads will oversee key program administration functions. These include coordination of practicum and clinical placements, maintenance of relationships with external clinical partners, support for accreditation and approval processes, program scheduling and staffing, promotion and outreach activities, and ensuring program records meet university and accreditation requirements. The role also includes academic advising of students and participation in Faculty, School, and University committees. Clinical responsibilities include providing chairside assistance and clinical support within the Faculty of Dentistry clinics.
Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain, current registration and licensure with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Dentistry and Dental Assisting, or Nova Scotia Regulator of Dental Hygiene and Dental Technology, and Denturism (NSRDHDT), as appropriate, and hold national board certification (NDEB, NDAEB, NDHCE, or equivalent). A minimum of five years of recent full-time clinical experience using full scope of practice is required, along with current CPR certification. Applicants must hold a dental assisting diploma/certificate and have education in teaching theory and methodology. Applicants must also hold a baccalaureate degree or higher in education or a related discipline (applicants within 1 year of completing this degree will also be considered), as well as a minimum of two years of successful teaching experience in didactic and clinical settings.
