Plainsman is looking for a Materials Planner to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. This hands-on role is responsible for ensuring raw materials are ordered, received, prepared, and staged so production can operate efficiently without delays.
The Materials Planner works closely with production, purchasing, receiving, and quality teams to maintain material flow and stay ahead of the production schedule.

Shift: Full-time, 8am-5pm

Role Responsibilities
- Coordinate material orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery
- Monitor inbound materials and proactively identify potential shortages or delivery risks
- Update material status and expected receipt dates within the ERP system
- Assist with receiving activities, including unloading, inspection, and material put-away
- Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, drawings, and material certifications
- Operate a forklift to move raw materials and finished cut stock throughout the facility
- Schedule and coordinate saw cutting activities to ensure materials are prepared ahead of production requirements
- Issue material and cutting instructions based on production priorities
- Review production schedules and maintain material readiness for upcoming jobs
- Communicate material availability, shortages, and scheduling concerns to production teams
- Participate in production planning meetings and provide material status updates
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with inventory counts
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to material flow, inventory management, and operational efficiency
- Follow all quality and safety procedures while maintaining a clean and organized work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Role Requirements
- Experience in materials planning, inventory control, logistics, purchasing, or production coordination
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment required
- Forklift certification required or willingness to obtain certification
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and material test reports
- Experience using ERP systems for inventory management, production tracking, and work order management; CRP Workbench experience is considered an asset
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to anticipate and resolve material shortages before they impact production
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Strong recordkeeping and documentation skills
- Knowledge of quality control principles and continuous improvement practices is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
