Position Summary
This position seeks to employ an outstanding, outgoing Positive Directions Worker (Social Worker or Child and Youth Practitioner) to dedicate support to youth who may be at risk of participating in gang involvement, providing wraparound supports, case management, navigating resources and services and supporting youth in achieving goals related to their individual needs in partnership with the Airdrie RCMP,
Reporting to the Director of Youth Services, the Positive Directions Worker will deliver collaborative and comprehensive early intervention services to youth ages 11 to 18 who are at risk of gang activity.
Our goal is to ensure that programs developed engage our youth, at risk of gang activity, address supportive strategies, natural and external supports, education, and resources, support healthy and positive development, and identify, connect and build relationships with youth involved in program.
The Positive Directions Worker will also be responsible in leading case management, overseeing and accepting referrals, as well as the intake and assessment process. This position requires availability in the daytime hours to accommodate the needs of the youth within our community.
Positive Directions is a pilot program to support at-risk youth with bullying, as well as gun violence and gang activity in the City of Airdrie. The program was launched on October 1, 2024, and provides the youth with wraparound support, mentorship, goal and skill building, and positive community collaboration.
The Positive Directions Worker provides the families and youths with goal setting, mentorship, access to community resources, and creating a cohesive support team within the school districts, RCMP, and any additional supports the participants may have.
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Director of Youth Services, as well as the Airdrie RCMP, City of Airdrie and the Rocky View Schools Division the Positive Directions Worker will be responsible for:
· Identify and connect at risk youth to the wraparound team.
· Deliver collaborative and comprehensive early intervention services to youth 11 to 18 who are at risk of gang activity.
· Engage with natural supports as well as community supports and services.
· Provide direct case management and regular case work with identified youth and families.
· Consult regularly, when needed with Schools, RCMP, Community Organizations and other identified service providers.
· Develop and manage individual case plans, participate and oversee the intake and assessment process.
· Manage regular file documentation and program administration.
· Attend and participate in regular meetings when required.
· Identify, connect and build relationships with youth and community partners.
· Assist in maintenance of the facility and equipment.
· To follow agency policy and procedures.
· Attended mandatory staff meetings.
Requirements
· Registered Social Worker or a Degree/Diploma in Child and Youth Care with a registration as a Child and Youth Care Practitioner
· Demonstrated ability to engage with youth at risk and their families.
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively and negotiate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team of service providers
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and needs of youth at risk of gang violence.
· High skill level in all areas of communication including written documentation and verbal collaboration.
· Energetic and flexible, with the ability to adapt to a variety of situations
· Current Standard First Aid
· Ability to produce clear RCMP Criminal Record Check, Children and Youth Intervention Record Check
· Ability to acquire enhanced RCMP security Clearance
Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
