Grounds & Facility Maintenance Student (Summer Position)

Do you enjoy working outdoors, staying active, and seeing the results of your hard work at the end of the day? The Essa Agriplex is looking for motivated, dependable students to join our maintenance team for the remainder of the summer.
This is a hands-on position where no two days are exactly the same. You'll help maintain one of the area's busiest agricultural and event facilities while working alongside a supportive team in a unique environment that includes livestock, green spaces, and community events.
What You'll Do
As part of our maintenance team, you'll assist with a variety of outdoor and facility maintenance tasks, including:
- Grass cutting and property maintenance
- Watering gardens, trees, and landscaped areas
- Gardening and grounds upkeep
- Horse stall cleaning and barn maintenance
- Event setup and teardown
- Garbage collection and site cleanup
- Equipment cleaning and pressure washing
- Minor repairs and general maintenance
- Operating equipment such as ride-on mowers, trimmers, blowers, golf carts, garden tools, and tractors (training provided)
What We're Looking For
We're seeking students who are:
- Reliable and dependable
- Hard-working with a positive attitude
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Eager to learn new skills
- Safety-conscious and willing to follow instructions
Previous experience with landscaping, farming, maintenance, or operating equipment is considered an asset, but it is not required. We are happy to provide training to the right candidates.
Physical Requirements
This position requires applicants to:
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Stand, bend, walk, and perform physical work throughout the day
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Safely operate maintenance equipment after training
A valid G2 or G driver's licence is considered an asset but is not required.
Position Details
- Immediate start available
- Employment through August 29, 2026, with the possibility of an extension by mutual agreement
- 35–45 hours per week
- Competitive wages
- Flexible scheduling with optional weekend work available
- Located at the Essa Agriplex in Thornton, Ontario
Eligibility
Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada and meet the eligibility requirements for our government-funded summer student employment program.
