Edmonton
Islamic Academy is seeking a passionate and dedicated Secondary Islamic
Studies Teacher
to join our team. At EIA, we believe education is not only
about academic success, but about nurturing the whole child—developing strong
character, a confident Islamic identity, and a deep connection to Allah (SWT).
We are looking
for an educator who sees teaching as a form of tarbiyah—guiding students
with care, wisdom, and intention. The ideal candidate will inspire a love for
Islam in young hearts, model exemplary character, and create a classroom
environment rooted in compassion, respect, and purpose.
Key
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate Islamic
Studies lessons rooted in tarbiyah principles
- Teach foundational concepts including Qur’an,
Seerah, Hadith, Islamic manners (akhlaq), and basic Fiqh
- Nurture students’ spiritual growth, character
development, and sense of Islamic identity
- Model Islamic values and character in daily
interactions with students
- Create a warm, inclusive, and faith-centered
classroom environment
- Encourage reflection, curiosity, and a love for
learning about Islam
- Use storytelling, discussion, and interactive
methods to make learning meaningful and relevant
- Assess student progress and communicate regularly
with parents
- Collaborate with colleagues to support a consistent
and holistic approach to student development
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives, assemblies,
and activities that promote Islamic values and community
Qualifications
& Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies, Education, or
a related field from an accredited institution
- Teaching certification (Alberta Teaching
Certificate) is an asset
- Strong understanding of Islamic teachings and their
application in daily life
- Experience working with elementary-aged children is
preferred
- Ability to connect with students in a nurturing,
patient, and compassionate manner
- Strong classroom management skills grounded in
positive and respectful approaches
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, faith-based
learning environment
- Ability to integrate technology and creative
teaching strategies into instruction
- Dedication to ongoing personal and professional
growth
