Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Engineering and Estimation, the Mechanical Designer will review project specifications and estimates to create detailed models, manufacturing drawings and manufacturing plans.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create fabrication drawings from Megatech and client drawings/models/sketches.
- Create models from customer General Arrangement files.
- Create burning/forming templates.
- Checking and approving drawings created by other team members.
- Communicate design and manufacturing information to the shop and purchasing teams.
- Provide mechanical engineering technical support to the manufacturing operations.
- Responsible for documentation and implementation of approved changes.
- Perform site measurements and inspections.
- Create designs using sound mechanical and structural engineering principals.
- Converse with clients
Qualifications
- 5-10 years experience designing Heavy mechanical structures: including ramps, shafted/shaftless conveyors, bulk handling systems, hoppers, and chutes.
- 5+ years Inventor experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years AutoCAD experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Must be able to produce accurate models/drawings in a timely manner.
- Excellent English communication skills – verbal and written.
- Strong time management and organization.
- Able to work in team environment or independently with minimal supervision.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Certification in mechanical design.
- Diploma in mechanical engineering and P.Eng. designation is an asset.
- Programming skills, in relation to Autodesk products, is an asset.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for extended periods.
Work Environment
Employee will generally work in an office environment but will be exposed to typical fabrication and site hazards such as moving equipment, loud noise, welding fumes.
Pay: $75,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
