Sault college is seeking experienced trades professionals and industry practitioners to teach within our Mechanical Engineering cluster of programs.
These programs prepare students for careers in manufacturing, machining, and industrial maintenance by building strong foundations in mechanical systems, shop practices, and applied engineering principles.
We are looking for individuals who want to share their experience, hold a high standard, and help students develop the skills needed to succeed in industry.
What You'll Teach
Part-Time instructors may teach across a range of mechanical and industrial topics, including:
- Interpret and create engineering drawings and schematics
- Machine shop practices, machining, and fabrication
- Preventative and predictive maintenance systems
- Mechanical components such as pumps, valves, bearings, seals, and power transmission systems
- Welding processes and safe operation of equipment
- Rigging, hoisting, equipment installation and alignment
- Manufacturing processes and production systems
- Industrial systems including material handling, conveyors, motors, turbines, compressors, and pollution control systems
- Foundational engineering concepts such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and system behavior
Courses combine classroom instruction with hands-on shop and lab work, with a strong emphasis on safety and real-world application.
What We're looking For
We are seeking individuals who bring both technical knowledge and a commitment to applied, hands-on learning.
This may include:
- Certified Trades Professionals with a Certificate of Qualification (C of Q), Red Seal, or equivalent, and significant industry experience
Or
- Engineers or technologists (Mechanical or related fields) with relevant experience in manufacturing, mechanical systems, or industrial environments
In all cases, idea candidates will:
- Have strong, practical understanding of mechanical systems in real-world settings
- Be able to explain concepts clearly, connecting theory to application
- Be comfortable working in a shop, lab or applied learning environment
- Take pride in their work and want to pass that standard on to students
- Value safety, consistency, and professionalism
Previous teaching or training experience is an asset, but not required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in applied environments such as shop, manufacturing, or industrial settings.
What You'll Do
- Deliver instruction in both classroom and shop environments
- Demonstrate tools, equipment, and procedures safely and effectively
- Guide students through hands-on learning and skill development
- Evaluate student progress through practical and theoretical assessments
- Reinforce industry expectations around safety, quality, and work habits
- Work collaboratively with program faculty and coordinators

This is a part-time instructor position, $61.01/hour - $115.13/hour.
